Mini Kaiju Cupcake Custom Series Blind Box

This blind-box custom series is based on the 2-inch Mini Kaiju Cupcake platform created and poured into resin by Jon Malmstedt of Rampage Toys. Jon is a friend of Tenacious Toys, having participated in many of our group shows as well as signing at our NYCC booth in 2010. We believe strongly in Jon's offbeat Americanized kaiju aesthetic- "Kaiju" means "monster" in Japanese, and what is more monstrous than our food here in America? Cupcakes, in all their sickly sweet deliciousness, are truly the scourge of our great nation. This mini series, therefore, both celebrates and vilifies the cupcake. Artist were invited to basically do whatever the heck they wanted with this platform. Customs came back both cute and scary. This certainly reflects the true nature of the cupcake. Do you think cupcakes are the food of angels, or are they the devil incarnate? Pick up one of these blind boxes and see which kind of cupcake you find inside!

There are 25 blind boxes in the series with one containing a golden ticket for a 5x7" original painting by Jon Malmstedt. Artists included in the series are NREAZON, Jon Malmstedt, Nasty Neil, Justin Hillgrove and OsirisOrion. Pick one up for only $25 now at the Tenacious Toys online shop.

Resin is King Series 2 Teaser: UME Toys

by
ANNOUNCING RESIN IS KING SERIES 2

Tenacious Toys in conjunction with Dead Hand Toys announces Resin is King Series 2: a blind-boxed resin mini figure series featuring the sculptural resin work of 16 artists! Each artist was asked to develop a new sub-3" resin sculpt and submit 10 pieces to the series using that sculpt. With 160 pieces in Series 2, this promises to be a much bigger release than Series 1.

We even worked with our good friend Lisa at Kidrobot: the KRNY store will host the Resin is King Series 2 release party on October 4th from 6-8pm! Many of the artists will be there in person to sign their pieces, and there will be exclusive and highly-limited prints by some of the artists available for purchase. Blind boxes and full, sealed 16-pieces cases/sets of the RIKS2 BBs will also be available. On October 5th, any leftover Resin is King Series 2 blind boxes will be put up for sale online at TenaciousToys.com.

WHAT IS RESIN IS KING?

The idea for the Resin is King blind box series was born out of an interest in artisanal resin collectibles. Brian Ahlbeck (Dead Hand Toys) and I decided last year that we wanted to shine a light on the top-level craftsmanship and creativity of resin figures and the artists that make them. We made a few phone calls and Resin is King Series 1 was born. Now for Series 2, we've expanded to reflect the wide variety of resin figures being produced day in and day out. We're always really excited as we prepare for these releases because every single WIP shot that rolls in is a brand-new sculpt! We hope you dig these resin figures as much as we do.

BadApplezINC Two Faced Rotten Applez Envy Edition 3" mini resin figures

by
You may recall that Bad Applez rolled out a brand-new mini apple sculpt for our recent Resin is King Series 1... well, the whole point of that series was to have new and original resin sculpts released upon the world, and the artists in the series were encouraged to go ahead and utilize that sculpt again for follow-up colorways on their own....

Bad Applez decided on a Granny Smith-style rotten apple as their follow-up, and really honestly I look at this apple sculpt as their mascot (like Kidrobot's mascot figure and Dudebox's Dude).

This envy edition is painted by BadApplezInc's Mike "NeMO" Mendez, the tops and bottoms are a realistic granny smith green with the core painted in gold metallic with a black wash! These came out stunning!! Each Two Faced Rotten Applez mini figure comes poly bagged with a header card and you can pick yours up here.

OsirisOrion custom Mickey Mouse for PlayImaginative

by
I can't tell you how much I love OsirisOrion's paint work. It's mind-blowing. This is his custom Mickey Mouse for the PlayImaginative show. Sick, deep metallic color. Heavy clearcoat makes the paint look so deep that you can dive into it like a swimming pool. Everything he paints looks amazing. Check out this album he has on Flickr. It's just amazing. That's all.

I'm a Bad Apple Group Show

by
Not surprisingly, my friends OsirisOrion and NEMO have pulled together an all-star roster of artists for their first online group custom show. Celebrating the launch of their new company Bad Applez, Inc., this show uses apples (plastic apples) as the platform for the customs.

The show goes live online on February 14th, so you can all attend, no matter where you live! Expect some sick customs. I've been able to see some of them already, and the ones I've seen are all incredibly impressive. Lots of effort and innovation have gone into the pieces.

In the meantime, check out the Bad Applez site to learn more about their projects.

Bad Applez launching with "I'm a Bad Apple" online group show

by
My friends and talented artists Mike NEMO Mendez and Rob OsirisOrion Ingellis are celebrating the launch of their company Bad Applez Inc. with an online group show they're calling "I'm a Bad Apple." Bad Applez Inc. is currently self-producing resin figures as well as garage kits that harken back to the good old days of DIY toy creation.
Going live on Valentine's Day (February 14, for us idiot guys who might actually forget the date), the Bad Applez show will feature the works of 30 talented artists. You might have surmised that an apple will be the platform for this show- not rotten old real apples, but nice cheap plastic apples that NEMO found. You might have seen some of them posted on Facebook by the artists that received the platforms!
Watch for more info posted here, on the Bad Applez site and lots of other blogs!

Monster Invitational Group Show at FOE

by

Monster Invitational Group Show, July 8th - July 22nd, 2011

FOE has curated a group show paying homage to monsters. The idea of monsters is as old as civilization and what society defines as monstrous changes and morphs through time and culture. Depending on when and where you grew up, it’s likely some version of monster, urban myth or story shaped your fears and nightmares. No one escapes this rite of passage. Come out to see how 20 different artists from westernmass to Japan interpret their own unique fears, repulsions and pleasures. It may sound scary, but monsters are fun too, and fears confronted (or exercised) are fears conquered.

Artists Roster Includes : Stephen Blickenstaff, Michael Bracco/Spaghetti Kiss, Paddy Charles, Bob Conge/Plaseebo, Dream Rocket, Halfbad Toyz, Paul Kaiju, Jeff Lamm/Greasebat, Brian Mahony/Guumon, Ben Mininberg/Prometheus Rising Studio, Monster Worship, Mark Nagata/Max Toy Co, Michael Nordstrom, Osiris Orion, Ben Reigle, Todd Robertson, Splurrt, Eric Talbot, Velocitron, Dave Wach

Pieces from the show available for sale on FOE's website.

Cheers to my buddy OsirisOrion for this video and general awesomeness.

Mini Kaiju Cupcake Blind Box Custom Series drops tomorrow

by
Announcing the impending release of a Tenacious Toys x Rampage Toys blind box custom series collaboration: Mini Kaiju Cupcakes!

We have been collaborating with Jon Malmstedt and Rampage Toys for a while now on various endeavors. Jon pours these great little 2-inch Mini Kaiju Cupcakes in resin and at first he was painting them himself. Then he tossed the idea at me for a blind box custom series based on this platform, and I was game!

We decided to go with a 25-piece series and 5 different artists (one of which is Jon). Jon picked another artist (Justin Hillgrove of Imps and Monsters) and left it to me to pick the other 3. I chose NREAZON from Texas, Nasty Neil (iwillnotbeawastedtalent) who's now from NY, and OsirisOrion from CT. 5 blanks went to each artist.
You can see more images here.

Series details:
• 25 blind-boxed pieces in the series
• Release date: Wednesday June 22nd at 7PM EST
• Golden ticket gets a lucky winner a 5x7" original painting by Jon Malmstedt
• $35 per blind box

This series will go live Wednesday evening in our Exclusives section here.

To recap: the artist roster is OsirisOrion, Nasty Neil, NREAZON, Justin Hillgrove and Jon Malmstedt. The pieces are about 2 inches tall, and the resin platforms were hand-crafted by Jon Malmstedt. Each custom will retail for $35. There are 25 blind-boxed pieces in this series, with one Golden Ticket randomly inserted. We have one more teaser to tease you with (NREAZON) and then we'll start promoting the release next week! Release date TBA soon. This release will take place on the Tenacious Toys website.

Tenacious Toys at Toy Street April 22nd in NYC

by
OsirisOrion custom mini figures make their debut at Toy Street
Next week on Friday April 22nd, we will be exhibiting at a toy-centric NYC event called Toy Street. Toy Street is put on by the Cookies N Cream crew at 268 Mulberry Street in NYC. This will be a one-day event running from noon to 8pm. Admission is FREE so definitely plan on coming through. We've put together a few neat projects which we'll be kicking off at our Toy Street booth which we are sharing with Lou Pimentel, a talented local artist and friend of ours.

The first major project we'll be unveiling is a collab with OsirisOrion which we've had in the works for a while: I sent Osiris four dozen of Buff Monster's mini Ice Cream figures. This awesome series of customs will feature the amazing and beautiful paint which we've come to expect from Osiris. These figures have 4 basic shapes, and each shape has it's own Orisis-style colorway. From left to right (above) are: Sewer Sludge, Oil Slick, Molten Lava, Rainbow Cookie. Each custom will be bagged and tagged and will sell for $25. Osiris will be on hand to meet, greet and sign. We ran these by Buff Monster and although this project is in no way associated with him, he saw the images and gave his stamp of approval.
Tenacious Exclusive Pearl White Skekiltor
The next collaboration we will have available at Toy Street is the above Pearl White Skekiltor 4.5-inch resin figure by Halfbad Toyz. The Tenacious Exclusive Pearl White Skekiltors were made in a limited run of 20 pieces, and the price is $18 each. Halfbad Toyz will have their own table at Toy Street where you'll be able to pick up a lot more of their toys and merch.
Scott Tolleson's Otis and Otto set
We've had a request from OG from the Big Kev's Geek Stuff show to stock the Scott Tolleson 2-figure set called Otis and Otto, so we will be bringing a few of these to Toy Street in the Blue/Red colorway (pictured above) as well as the Orange/Purple colorway. Otis and Otto are $25 per set. These are a worthy companion to the Scott Tolleson Uncle Argh Mini Qee that we are currently accepting preorders for here
If you haven't listened to the Big Kev's Geek Stuff show, you can check out past episodes here. We're currently running a 3A Large Martin giveaway on their show (to air tomorrow night) so click here to go to their site and learn how to enter to win!
Danny Chan's "The Dragon": Show Special
Our show special for Toy Street will be the 9-inch vinyl "The Dragon" figure in the OG colorway seen above. Designed by Danny Chan for the clothing label REMIX, this figure will be priced at $12 each just for the duration of Toy Street. That's about one third of the normal price.

In addition to all of the above fun stuff, we will also be hosting NEMO, who's coming in with a micro-series of four 4-inch hand-carved wooden tiki figures.
Will post images and pricing once those are available.

We are also hoping to replenish our stock of Zombie Chuck figures in time for Toy Street. Our Tenacious Exclusive blue Zombie Chucks sold out so fast that we thought we'd get some more.
And we'll be giving out stickers and selling a variety of designer art toys all afternoon, so please do stop by!
