BAIT x Huck Gee x Robotech - SDCC BOOTH #5645

by
Well, one of Huck Gee's favorite animations is Robotech, which has influenced a lot of Huck's work. Who doesn't like mechs!? With the launch of Superplastic, it seemed that Huck would only be releasing anything related to Superplastic property. But, surprise, surprise, Huck Gee and Bait come out of left field. This year, Bait is releasing a Bait x Huck Gee x Robotech collaboration that is amazing. Previously seen on a SDCC Blog, with little info other than price, Huck and Bait has finally come out with more details. This is being called Huck's "final solo project", where he re-imagined the Armor Cyclone, while also re-defining some details of the canon. Available in 2 separate editions, this 8 inch figure is super articulated and is loaded with detail. The main regular colorway will be available at all 9 BAIT stores, most likely starting July 18th. The rare Bronze Alternate colorway is going to be an exclusive to Bait's SDCC Booth, #5645. Priced at $125 a piece and no word on edition size for either colorway, the SDCC exclusive Bronze Alternate will likely sell out during SDCC. Hit up those helpers now.

From Huck Gee's Newsletter release:

BAIT x Huck Gee x Robotech

For me, this was the collaboration of a lifetime. Robotech was THE defining animated series of my youth. At the time, it was an imagined world far beyond anything I had ever seen. Mech designs, characters and stories that heavily influenced my pre-teen mind. Still to this day, I hold the Cyclone as one of my favorite mech designs ever. And while I've dipped my toes into Robotech for inspiration in the past, this is an officially licensed endeavor. Not only a collaboration but, for the eagle eyed, attention detailed fan, I may have also re-defined some Cyclone canon. :) What can I say, I like to break things.
Thank you & much love,
Huck

Jumbo Art Trooper by RYCA is yet another SW inspired piece, with the added Warhol flair. Limited to just 15 pieces, these giant carded figures are going to run $165 a piece.
DKE provided info regarding Jumbo Art Trooper by RYCA:

DKE Toys at SDCC 2018: No Toys 4 Us by Mr Blank Toys

by
This latest release for DKE Toys SDCC 2018 is called No Toys 4 Us by Mr Blank Toys. Mr Blank Toys has a better story of this piece so here is what DKE Toys and Mr Blank Toys has to say about No Toys 4 Us:
No Toys 4 Us by Mr Blank ToysWe’ve all be grieving the loss of Toys R Us, but no one as much as poor, sad, out of work Geoffrey the Giraffe. Mr Blank Toys in his SDCC debut brings No Toys 4 Us. Hand cast and painted 3.75” scale carded figure. Numbered edition of 40 pieces. $65
When I heard that Toys-R-Us was closing down, the first things I thought of was: "Oh No, What's going to become of Geoffrey the Giraffe?" because Big Corporations never think of the little guys, the ones effected most by their mismanagement. I imagined Geoffrey might not be able to handle going from being number one in the hearts and minds of millions of toy loving children young and old... to suddenly losing everything. Jobless, penniless, and forced to the streets, destined to become a junkie sleeping in the dumpster behind the liquidated boarded-up toy store, flying a sign off the freeway exit, hitchhiking to the next town. Poor Geoffrey! Now I've certainly spent some time down on my luck and transient as an artist, so I could sympathize with Geoffrey's plight. I've slept on stranger's couches or lived out of a nearly broke down school bus touring the southeast USA as a traveling performance artist. I've had to eat at soup kitchens and do street busking performance art, gas jugging, and sign-flying for money. I've hitchhiked to New Orleans and survived off of selling street art and collecting tips... wanderlust certainly flows in my blood. Sideshow freaks, street performers, and musicians are my best friends, and I know some pretty crazy homeless people too! So this figure is dedicated to all those struggling, chewed up and spit out by the system, listless and wandering...
At first I wasn't sure how I was going to make the figure in a way that would fully get my idea across. I pulled out a shitty giraffe kids-meal toy, trying to figure out how to make it work, but it didn't. When my eye caught sight of the Star Wars "Watto" figure (Star Wars Episode I, Hasbro 1998) I instantly knew that was the direction I had to take. I chopped up some "Count Dooku" legs (The Clone Wars Collection, Hasbro 2009) and stuck them to the bottom of the Watto body, then with a bunch of small detailed sculpting, and some arms from a "Mercenary Cpl. Lyle Wainfleet" figure (James Cameron's Avatar, Mattel 2009). I ended up with a long-necked grumpy-faced giraffe figure in denim vest and dirty pants, who looked like he had seen some pretty rough days! Then with the addition of a simple cardboard sign that reads "Will Werk 4 Toys" it was a perfectly Hobo looking Geoffrey the Street Giraffe! Or simply titled: "No Toys 4 Us". Limited edition, carded 4" resin bootleg art toy figure.
The figure marks the sad end of an era for kids and toy collectors, yet a hopeful beginning for me. This is the beginnings of my own toy making endeavors. This will be the first solid run of figures (40 pcs.) that I've done to date, and they have already been signed on to be a "2018 San Diego Comic Con Exclusive" released with DKE Toys (a major distributor who's worked with the biggest artists and collectors in the bootleg art toy scene, and has regular booths at the best designer toy conventions in the USA).

DKE Toys SDCC 2018: Stripewok by Little Lazies

by
At SDCC 2018 Booth #5045, DKE Toys is throwing in some cute hand sculpted figures into the mix of resin. Stripwok by Little Lazies is a 2" hand sculpted figure that will be limited to just 30 pieces. Priced at $55 a piece, each little Stripewok will come packaged on a card back, all designed by Little Lazies. This is a piece I may have to pickup myself.

DKE Toys info regarding Stripewok by Little Lazies:
Stripewok by Little Lazies

Meet Stripewok! Each piece is hand sculpted by Leah Lester of Little Lazies. No two are exactly the same but they are so close to one another that it's kind of hard to imagine that they aren't cast and she made 30 of them!!! The 2” figures are signed and numbered on the bottom of the figure and carded in a package she designed and are only $55. Don’t get them wet and don’t feed them after midnight.

Bio: Little Lazies are weird, little, clay creatures made by Leah Lester, a monster maker living in Seattle, WA. How did it all start? Leah was a full time cake decorator who very much enjoyed sculpting out of edible paste for the cakes she created. One sunny day in June 2010 she said to herself, "I want to make a monster for the top of this cake!" So she did just that... Soon after, her friends started encouraging her to create these characters into clay; something that they could keep for a lifetime. So with that, Leah bought some clay and with lots of practice, experimenting, character developing and imagination her monsters evolved into what they are today - the Little Lazies!
