DCON 2015 Exclusive Leftovers from Toy Art Gallery available online

Toy Art Gallery has a good number of DCON 2015 Exclusives available online, right now. Some pieces like Poison Pup Pink and Spankystoke's Stroll in the OG colorway are already sold out. Doktor A's Mandrake Root in Blue, priced at $65 plus shipping, is currently available, along with a good number of customs. Franken Brain by Plaseebo for TAGs Halloween Show

Plaseebo, aka artist Bob Conge, created a monstrous piece titled "Franken Brain", for TAGs 2014 Halloween show. Created using 6 pounds of double cast resin, "Franken Brain" features a color changing LED unit and GID pink brain. The LED illuminates within the GID brain, creating a great effect. Available for $650 plus shipping, this piece and many others can be purchased through TAGs online store. For those in the LA area, pieces can be purchased at TAGs brick and mortar store.

DEVILMAN tribute alavaka by Toy Art Gallery and DHP

A joint release between Toy Art Gallery and DHP. A few of these will make their debut at the Dark Invasion show next Saturday with the remaining pieces going on sale in the DHP webshop on Sunday. A nod to the classic Japanese anime from the 70's. Teal vinyl with black, yellow, red and blue sprays. PLEASE NOTE: these are sold at random and there is a small chance you will receive the red crystal eye chase version. Made in Japan.

The fine folks over at Toy Art Gallery in Los Angeles are teasing us with the mysterious image above. Nothing more and nothing less. All we know is it is a show entitled "Dark Invasion" and it is taking place next month. More news as it comes.

New Works from Carson Catlin Lolligag, Labbit and More

Carson Catlin has been cutting it up- the vinyl that is, and shares with us new pieces for upcoming shows. Carson contributes "Reticu-lloli", pictured above and below,  for Toy Art Gallery's Vive La Lolligag. Reticu-Lloli has an antiqued finish, making the darker shadowed areas of many smaller cuts stand out. Reticu-Lloli will be available through Toy Art Gallery for $200, inquire info@toyartgallery.com for purchase.

Carson also contributes "RWB" - red, white & black Munny to Menace Inc. Studio's Childish Playthings. Red, white & black is a colour palette Carson shows interest in continuing to explore, and with each colour having unique emotional or thematic connotations, I'm interested to see where Carson takes it.

Carson also shares with us a commissioned piece recently completed. "Cadela Metal" was completed over the course of 8-9 months, and incorporates copper wire.

30" Demon Ranger Custom by Mikie Graham for TAG's Power Rangers 20th Anniversary Show

Mikie Graham of Zombie Monkie art recently showed off his insane custom 30" Demon Ranger for the Power Rangers 20th Anniversary show at Toy Art Gallery.

"I did my best to keep the original shape of the iconic power ranger figure, tweaking the sculpt as little as possible… that being said, you may notice a few changes. 

First off I removed “the Great Gosei” mask from the Ranger’s belt, molded him, then added my resin cast Gosei masks to four key locations on my design. I chopped off the original face to sculpt in the new snake face (including 2 real teeth) then using the Ranger’s original face I mounted it to his back to create the bug looking demon that you can see from behind. Finally a few minor sculpted details transformed the Rangers feet into monsters of their own…. shoes that Gene Simmons himself would be envious of! The rest was all hand painted using the contours of the rangers body as my guide. To finish him off I gave his massive cyclopean eyeball a good dose of gloss spray giving it that realistic wet look."

Dcon 2013 Alavaka

Toy Art Gallery has teamed up with Toby Dutkiewicz of Devil's Head Productions to release a very limited run of sofubi "Alavaka" figures at their booth #215. There will be just 5 pieces up for grabs, and each one features a very unique colored splatter. Each one comes with a skull in the matching color. So far there is no information on price, but these are sure to sell out fast.

"Music to My Ears" Birthday Art Show by Super Cooper

Music to My Ears is a group show curated by, now teen, Super Cooper Berella. A yearly birthday celebration and art show, previously held at the Munky King retail store, is opening at Toy Art Gallery in LA on August 24th. Every year, Super Cooper manages to gather a great group of artists to create both 2D and 3D pieces of art, all around a unified theme. This years theme revolves around the influence of music to each artist, or his/her interpretation of the term "Music to My Ears". It's not uncommon for artists to post a picture on Instagram/twitter/vine/etc, while also commenting on the music he/she is listening too, zoning out to whatever genre seems to fit with the current mood.

From Super Cooper: 

“As an artist and curator myself, I love music because it helps me power my creative circle. In other words, it helps me think of ideas and controls my art. Music can soothe me through trance, or pump me up with dubstep. This can cause effect on my characters and ideas by giving me expression. The expression leads to many ideas that transfer into my art. I hope that this show, “Music to My Ears,” will take you through that same journey and through a trip of music wonderland.”

Super Cooper is going to be 14 years old and in the past few years that I've known about him, his passion for art in general, never ceases to amaze me. While the young Super Cooper is an already accomplished curator, Super Cooper is also a budding artist and avid collector, with his collection being a finalist for 2013 Designer Toy Awards. If that wasn't enough, Super Cooper is also a philanthropist, with some proceeds for his curated shows typically getting donated to a charity or two. Proceeds this year will benefit CHAMPS and Book Bridge.


For anyone who can make it, the opening reception will happen at Toy Art Gallery on August 24th from 7-10PM. The show will run until September 10th and many local artists are sure to be in attendance. It'll be a great party, so arrive early and hang out with all of those in attendance.
