'KOLORSTORM: The Art of Louie "KR.ONE" Gasparro' Available on Amazon Now

by
NYC graffiti art, heavy metal, comic books, and fantasy art intersect here in Louie “KR.ONE” Gasparro’s visual autobiography. This legendary Queens artist-drummer weaves these powerful influences into a medium he calls "Graffantasy," creating tags, wall pieces, paintings and illustrations, model trains, jackets, and more.

Gaze at this modern Renaissance man’s work from 1977 to the present, and trace his evolution from his adolescent days watching bombed subway cars whirring by in a KOLORSTORM, to the underground period tagging trains and evading cops, to his legal works and whole–school buses. Starting with a scrapbook-like photo collection from Louie’s youth and his other career as drummer of several heavy metal bands, the book moves on with elaborate sketches from the artist’s blackbooks, and colorful concert posters and album covers.

Through a stunning array of styles and techniques, witness KR.ONE’s transformation from restless punk to major decorative artist and abstract painter.

We've enjoyed working with Louie on several different projects and shows, including his participation in The Grand Slam All City Style show, painting several commissioned ACS trains for Bigshot Toyworks and Klim, and painting live at the Bigshot booth at two successive NY International Toy Fairs. Louie is both a talented artist, and a great guy. Support Queens artists!

MIST Solo Show at Wall Works New York Opens Saturday June 6 in the Bronx

by
Worth posting: A gallery called Wall Works New York in the Bronx will be hosting French graffiti legend MIST in his first solo exhibition ever in New York! Opening reception is Saturday June 6 from 5-8pm. There will also be a limited-edition print available through the gallery, so it's highly recommended that you make your way to Wall Works, which is located at:
 39 Bruckner Blvd, Bronx, NY.

Why am I telling you about a gallery show? Because MIST has designed some of my favorite art toys. We even have a couple in the shop, available for purchase: his Lucius character (to the right), and the giant Holybrikus. Buy your own MIST toys here.

MIST's toy designs mimic his signature angular characters and shapes he applies to walls and canvases. You can even see echoes of the classic MIST toy shapes in the 2D piece above. Looking at the toys next to his graffiti and more abstract painterly piece, you can definitely pick out a signature style which is consistent throughout his work.

All City Style Trains are back on track and available to shops at wholesale

by
Big news from Bigshot Toyworks: their insanely popular All City Style blank subway trains are back! Bigshot is now accepting wholesale orders from shops interested in restocking this product which sold out nearly everywhere, world-wide. I'll definitely get some.

ACS trains are 20 inches long and are essentially a half of a train car- back is flat and comes with necessary hardware to mount to a wall. Each ACS train also comes with pegs and holes so 2 can be combined to form a whole train car. A versatile piece. So many famous artists have customized ACS trains that it would be absurd to even begin to list them. Basically, it's everyone you've ever heard of. Go to the ACS website and click on Shows to see a bunch of custom painted trains. ACS shows have been help in countries around the world. I think the last one was in South Korea. Next one I believe will be Cardboard Spaceship... and I only know that because I'm paying attention to attentive bloggers. Just like you're doing now. How meta.

Anyone wishing to purchase single trains, or small numbers, will have to contact your favorite local retailer to obtain them. SRP is $40 each.

Shops wishing to make wholesale purchases can email orders into sales@bigshottoyworks.com - wholesale pricing begins with orders of 40 trains. The ACS trains come in 10-pc cases and you can buy 10, 20 or 30 of them but you'll be paying a higher price per piece than you would at true wholesale pricing you get when you order 40+ pieces.

Best of all, Bigshot has for the first tme produced crystal-clear Ghost Trains (pictured below) which are ONLY available at wholesale to shops that make 40-train purchases. Shops can buy 20 Ghost Trains for every 40 silver (original) ACS trains they buy.

The shipment of All City Style trains is headed our way... so get your orders in!

If you need more info, click here to view the most recent ACS email. Or sign up for their email list yourself at the bottom of their Contact page.

Estria Battle Festival 2013: A Celebration of Public Art - A Kickstarter Project

by

Public Art is something that every community in the world should have, support and celebrate. Globally renowned muralist Estira Miyashiro created the Estria Battle in 2007 to help engage youth, celebrate public art and build communities. For 2013, the Estria Battle has turned into, what hopefully will be, a great festival for the arts in Oakland, CA.

Funding huge events such as this one does not come cheap or easy. In order to help fund the Estria Battle Festival, Estria Battle has recently launched a Kickstarter, which will run until July 11th, 2013. With a $25,000 goal and a little over a month to reach that goal, Estria Battle will need all the help they can get.

Pledge levels start at $5, which will get a Thank you from Estria Battle. A $25 pledge will get a backer an 11x17" never before released poster by Alex "Defer" Kizu. Jesse Hernandez has also hopped on board, lending a Estria Battle Poster($25 Pledge) design that will also be printed on T-Shirts($50 Pledge) and Hoodies($100 Pledge) for backers. Prints and original pieces from a bunch of other artists are also available as a reward for varying pledge levels. As with all Kickstarters, keep in mind that funds will only get charged to backers if the Kickstarter is fully funded when the Pledge period ends on July 11th.

I've always been a fan of art, no matter what the medium. Public art plays such a vital role in every community, often by turning dreary and bland walls into great colorful works of art. Make a pledge if you can, or at least help spread the word and let's all help get the Estria Battle Festival Funded.

Trains of Fame new website and new DIY trains

by
Trains Of Fame presents its new website and online gallery. The works of graffiti artists such as Comer, Decap, Pone, Pro, Zenoy and DIY blank train cars will all now be available on the net.

After the success of the exhibition in the Oberkampf’s gallery in January, reuniting over 133 graffiti artists from France, Belgium, Switzerland, England, Germany, Spain, Italy and over a thousand people during the opening night, Trains of Fame decides to launch an online gallery and promote the works of five of the most influential french graffiti artists.

Always on the parisian subway model and for this special occasion, Comer, Decap, Pone,
Pro and Zenoy have customised some new trains, all of which can be seen in the online gallery.

Allowing everyone to express his creativity, Trains Of Fame also offers prepainted trains either of one and two colors or refering to the color code of the french trains and parisian subways.

The “Metro” model is composed of several types of subways referring to the current one
and those in circulation since its inauguration in 1900.

The “RER” model is a perfect copy of the parisian trains, carrying more than 2.7 million
passengers a day.

The “grey train” model reproduces old trains put on traffic in the 60s.

Once again, this gives a great opportunity to express yourself on historical train models!
Those reduced scale train models are specially designed be put on a desk, shelf or fix on a wall.

TYO Toys' MQ Chevy Van

by
This is a 1:64 diecast Matchbox Chevy Van with MQ artwork on both sides.

Originally cast in 1979 by Matchbox/Mattel, these blank vans sat for years forgotten in the stock room of a warehouse in New Jersey. TYO discovered them in 2011 the VanDal series was born.
The first participating artist is MQ, see more of his work at http://mqism.com and http://tyotoys.com/graffititoys/mq-van.

I really dig this type of piece- way before I discovered designer toys, I used to collect Matchbox and Hot Wheels in a big way. Apparently my Mom potty-trained me by bribing me with a Matchbox car. Seriously. I couldn't even make up a story that embarrassing.

Trains of Fame: Group Show in Paris, January 2011

by

I've been getting periodic updates from Vincent, creator of the Trains of Fame miniature subway cars, for quite some time now. I have been meaning to give him a nice post on this blog but with the holidays coming up and my main focus being packing orders, my blogging has been spotty at best.

But Vincent sent me this killer video, and I finally have time to give him the proper page space he deserves, so here's all you need to know about Trains of Fame:

The platform itself is a miniature version (52cm long) of the Parisian subway cars (French people call the subway "le metro"). Vincent and his crew pulled together over 100 European graffiti artists, each bombing, in miniature, a full subway car. This concept is both antithetical to, and a natural progression of, the concept of bombing a real subway car, as it is legal and fun and these guys can readily admit to doing these pieces and showing them off...

The Trains of Fame group show will be held January 7 thru 14 at:
Gallery Oberkampf
103 Rue St Maur
Paris, France
