Back the Pop Up Art Book on Kickstarter, featuring Tara McPherson, Jim Mahfood, Junko Mizuno, Skinner, kozyndan, and Angry Woebots

by

This colorful, intricately crafted book features multi-dimensional spreads from six internationally renowned artists who are each recognized for their unique work: Tara McPherson, Jim Mahfood, Junko Mizuno, Skinner, kozyndan, and Angry Woebots.

The idea behind this group book is to represent a wide range of contemporary art styles in an exciting new pop up format, and our ultimate goal is to get this book in as many of your hands as possible. After creating and self-publishing our first book, Pop Up Funk with artist Jim Mahfood in 2013, we reached out to other artists with the same simple concept: to take their art apart and then re-construct it as a three-dimensional pop-up spread.

Mini Panda King Prototypes from Aaron "Angry Woebots" Martin

by
3D Printers are getting more affordable and attainable as more companies try to produce a newer and user friendly version. Between MakerBots, FlashForge and PrintrBot to name a few, 3D printers are helping people prototype and make stuff all around the world. So, when one of the best resin production people, Silent Stage Gallery, teased that they had purchased a 3D printer, the stage was set for some future awesome. First up, of what will probably be many, is Angry Woebots' Mini Panda King 2 prototypes. Aaron "Angry Woebots" Martin teased some pictures recently of a few Mini Panda King 2 prototypes. The prototype minis are 3D printed and depending on cost efficiency, for production may either be all be 3D printed or molded and cast in resin. No word on if or when these mini bad boys will become available, but with Designer Con 2014 around the corner, it's highly likely that Woes will be packing the mini heat. This is not the first time 3D printers have allowed artists to shrink down a design and go to print, MAD Toy Design did this in the past when he released his 3D Printed Micro MADLs. All of the Micro MADLs were 3D printed and allowed MAD to produce whatever color he wanted, albeit within the parameters of available filament color. Other artists are also using 3D printing to prototype and build pieces that are eventually molded and cast in resin for production. Now, 3D printing is not for everyone, but still can be a wonderful tool for anyone.
Considering the limited printing envelope, only time will tell how 3D Printing will help Silent Stage and Angry Woebots prototype in the future. One thing is certain, this can definitely be a game changer. What are collectors hoping to see in the future from Woes and Silent Stage? Comment on this post and let everyone know.

by

Angry Woebots - Howling Masher | 1xRUN Limited Edition Time-Released Art

(24) pieces left out of the 100-piece run as of right now!! Click link above to buy.

The framing for this RUN includes a 1 Inch Black Wood Frame with UV-Glass, foam core backing and ready to hang hardware. At $50, this is a ridiculously amazing deal for a FRAMED Woes print.

"This is a newer style I been playing with, loose and more raw. It's the second Masher joint that I have done with 1xRun, I call it the Howler, it's my Taiwan dedication to the heat. I travel to Southeast Asia a lot and I knew it was gonna be humid as hell, so this is homie complaining about the heat ha. The original sits on my wall back home in Los Angeles, I kinda like it and I never keep my pieces so I think I'll keep this one. " - Angry Woebots

REVIEW: Angry Woebots Camo Backpack by FLABSLAB

by
Angry Woebots Camo Backpack by FLABSLAB
Le Fucker and I became friends on Facebook a while back, but his company FLABSLAB only really crept onto my radar when I saw a shot of this backpack he produced for Angry Woebots. I dig camo, and the use of Woes' signature panda in a camo pattern is so bad-ass, it just stuck in my mind. FLABSLAB! How could you forget that name? He's got some other awesome apparel products as well that he puts put under his own name. Really, a guy with a lot going on, fingers in a lot of different projects at once. Like my Singapore brother from another mother!

Look at all those pockets! Love the inner pockets!

Anyway, my sample Woes pack arrived JUST in time for me to bring it to the New York Toy Fair. When you go to Toy Fair, it's sort of like hiking in the mountains for 4 days- you need comfortable footwear, smart clothing choices, food and water, and a large bag to store the stuff you collect as you walk around. When this bag arrived- and it was bigger than I expected at 17 inches tall and 11 inches wide- I was so psyched! I had my Toy Fair bag.

Steph and I are bag collectors. We have a variety of Jansport, Oakley, Dakine, Tumi, The North Face, Cabela's bags and several others. She doesn't carry a handbag, she likes technical backpacks. She's currently carrying a Deuter Speed Lite 10 in black. Bags are serious business to both of us, so this is a review that I don't take lightly, nor will I bullshit you in any way... this is easily my favorite backpack in a large collection of awesome bags. You can see above that the straps are wide and thick, very confortable to wear all day long.

The bag is nice and flexible and lightweight for such a big bag- here I am at the Zing booth shooting a suction-cup arrow with no problem while wearing the Woes pack.

The large main inner sleeve pocket is padded for your ipad or laptop, and the bag is voluminous enough to swallow up our full-sized DSLR camera with ease, plus more.

I wore this backpack for 4 full days at Toy Fair with absolutely no discomfort.

Thick metal zipper pulls are easy to grab, and there's even a top-side zippered pocket to keep your wallet or sunglasses safe and easily accessible (above).

It's even great for skateboarding!

Here I am at the Mimoco booth, talking shop. As you can see, I have stuffed the bag full at this point.
I don't even have to get into the cool factor of rocking such a recognizable and limited-edition bag- literally everyone I saw at Toy Fair (and that's a lot of very talented designers and artists) wanted one for themselves. That's saying something.

The price is $120 each and they are produced in extremely limited quantities, so chances are, you'll never see another human being wearing one (unless you're at a con where Woes is appearing...). The price about on par with Oakley's backpacks and way less than any Tumi bag, and way more special and rare.

US customers will be able to find this backpack at the following locations:

You could also order through me. If I collect 6+ orders, I can import a case of them to NYC. Email me if you're interested.

Customers in Asia and any other country (beside the US) can order these packs directly from FLABSLAB by emailing them here. They will provide a ship quote.

And finally, if you are not yet familiar with the Singapore-based FLABSLAB brand, go check their website. Tons of cool apparel, prints, paintings and exclusive toys on there.

Make sure you follow FLABSLAB and Angry Woebots on Facebook too.

Angry Woebots Apparel and Custom Mega Munny

by
Aaron "Angry Woebots" Martin has been on a constant art hustle for some time now. His art, no matter what the media, tends to sell out quickly. Now, while he is currently in Hawaii, Aaron is still finding time to create art for people to buy. Case and point, Aaron has 2 shirts and a large tote available to pre-order. One shirt uses his Furs and Fang 2 painting, while the other shirt uses a print of the painting he did at the Thirtynine Hotel. Both shirts retail for $30 plus shipping and are only available until June 5th (or Friday June 7th).

Aaron's Fur and Fang 2 painting is also being printed on the large tote bag, which has a circular print of the paiting. The tote is selling for $50 plus shipping and is also made to order.

Of course that is not enough, also available is a custom Mega Munny. A great addition for any collector.

Green Panda Gazer Bust by Angry Woebots x Lightsleepers

by
Aaron "Angry Woebots" Martin and Lightsleepers are releasing a "Green Hawaiian" colorway of the Panda Gazer Bust, through Silent Stage Gallery. This latest release is different from the rest, in that it's not limited by quantity, but it is only going to be available for a limited time. This means that everyone will have a chance to snag one, as long as you make your purchase during the timed release.

Available for $150 plus shipping, now through Thursday, January 18, 2013. This latest Green clear resin colorway is looking like the last colorway of the Gazer Bust.  So, make sure to pick one up or be sad when this panda bust goes extinct, just like the Panda King.

Angry Woebots Custom Dunnys and MADL

by
It looks like Aaron Martin, Angry Woebots, has had some late nights laying some paint and creating a bunch of very cool one-offs. Aaron has already released a couple of 3 inch dunnys and some mini Teddy Troops, which already sold out. His next round of custom one-offs include four "Shadow Friend" 3 inch dunnys. This is definitely creating more excitement with collectors, especially with Aaron's much anticipated Kidrobot 8" production Dunny releasing December 6th, also titled "Shadow Friend".

The Mono-tone Dunnys are going to sell for $150 each plus shipping, here. All of which are awesome and would make a great addition to any collection.

Clockwise from upper left: "Spacer", "Silence", "Sneaks", "Alert"

Aaron is also putting up a sick custom MADL, which is going to sell for $300, here. My guess is that it's a 5" MADL. Custom MADLs don't come up very often and Angry Woebots custom MADLs are even more rare.

All the pieces are expected to be released at 12pm PST. For those of you who are keen on picking up one of Aaron's customs, you better get your favorite loaded up and F5 button ready. Since Aaron doesn't create custom Dunnys often, I'm sure the few that he is releasing is already being eyed by dozens of collectors worldwide. These customs are going to go quick, making a few collectors very happy and many left with nothing but hoping for another release. We will have to wait and see if Aaron is going to do another set of customs.

If you're in the San Francisco or LA area next week, be sure to hit up the Kidrobot signing and Dunny release. Aaron is going to be signing at both stores: LA on December 5th, from 6-8 PM for a pre-release and San Francisco on December 6th, from 6-8PM also. Check out the info here.

Poster Cause Battle Series Prints coming April 15th!

by

Are you ready? Cuz this is gonna knock your socks off: Poster Cause announces that on April 15th they will begin releasing prints in their upcoming Battle Series. 4 prints in the series, each one a collaboration piece between two big-name artists! I am so psyched for this series: Poster Cause always has AMAZING artwork at attainable prices for those of us who don't have multiple hundreds of dollars to acquire original art from these popular artists... AND the profits go to charity.
