Internationally known painter, illustrator, and toy designer Tara McPherson kicks off her 2018 pop-up tour at PIQ Grand Central on March 9th 6-8pm. 

Tara brings her complex world of beauty, myth, and emotion to PIQ for an NYC start of her nine stop tour that runs from Akron to Asheville. Winner of Designer Toy Awards "Toy of the Year " in 2012, her partnership with Kidrobot continues with the recent Wonder Woman 7" and Care Bears Tender Heart figure releases. Choose from a comprehensive assortment of her prints, meet this stellar artist, and help give her a New York hometown send-off.

Tara McPherson is an artist based out of New York City. Creating art about people and their odd ways, her characters seem to exude an idealized innocence with a glimpse of hard earned wisdom in their eyes. The Pop Up Art Book - 3-D Versions of Contemporary Artwork

With only ten days left on their Kickstarter, Poposition Press has already surpassed their goal to creating this pop up art book featuring work from Tara McPherson, Jim Mahfood, Junko Mizuno, Skinner, kozyndan, and Angry Woebots. With the goal already fulfilled, new lower tier rewards are now available including individual pop-up art prints from the individual artists. This colorful, intricately crafted book features multi-dimensional spreads from six internationally renowned artists who are each recognized for their unique work: Tara McPherson, Jim Mahfood, Junko Mizuno, Skinner, kozyndan, and Angry Woebots.

The idea behind this group book is to represent a wide range of contemporary art styles in an exciting new pop up format, and our ultimate goal is to get this book in as many of your hands as possible. After creating and self-publishing our first book, Pop Up Funk with artist Jim Mahfood in 2013, we reached out to other artists with the same simple concept: to take their art apart and then re-construct it as a three-dimensional pop-up spread.

Trip to MPH & the Jeremyville & Buff Monster show at Cotton Candy Machine

Yesterday was fun- I met up with Kris Dulfer of Kid Ink Industries and Jon Malmstedt of Rampage Toys to chill in NYC before Jon leaves for Japan. We stopped at Kidrobot and then popped over to MyPlasticHeart, where we met up with Eric from Argonaut Resins and Rob (who you might know as "Smack"). Also stopping in: Grim from IHeartCoolStuff, and Cho, 2 more locals. It was a regular party! We all talked toys, like true nerds, and I played with MPH's new resident puppy. 

MPH just got a big Toy2R shipment so I got to play with the brand-new 7-inch Clear Qee Bear for the first time. The arm joints are AWESOME! They can go in any direction. Definitely a cool new feature. Our shipment containing these figures is arriving early next week.

After we finished bothering Vin at MPH, Kris, Jon, Rob and I hopped on the train and went to Brooklyn. We stopped in to refresh ourselves on a bar which is, conveniently, at the end of the same block as Tara McPherson's new shop & gallery, Cotton Candy Machine. KANPAI!

Here's the CCM shop, and Jon poking thru his stuff as we wait for the show to open. Jon thinks this isn't a good picture, but he's wrong. It's a GREAT picture!

Time to go in!

The show quickly became PACKED, and there were probably 100+ pieces hanging on the walls. Straight up jammed on the walls! Tara's colorful artwork meshes perfectly with Buff's use of pink and Jeremyville's cartoony style. A great show!

... and of course the Sucklord showed up and walked in screaming. Literally. He quieted down a little when I showed him where the free beer was. (THANK YOU TARA FOR THE FREE PBRs!!)

There were lots of awesome production and custom toys for sale. Here are Buff's customs of his own figures. I also saw someone buying one of Buff's Destroyers, a huge piece with silver antlers! Great day. Godspeed to Jon Malmstedt, we'll miss you buddy!

Collette from Tomopop unboxes a Magic Love Hello Kitty figure we sent her! We are now sold out of this figure but you can find the accompanying Visell Bad Badtz Maru and Junkocat Chococat figures (also Sanrio x Kidrobot collaborative figures) at Tenacious Toys for $39.95 each. Basically, each 6-inch vinyl figure in this series is an artist's take on a Sanrio character. Pretty cool!

Magic Love Hello Kitty by Tara McPherson x Kidrobot

First up in a really SWEET series of Hello Kitty artist crossover pieces by Kidrobot is this "Magic Love" Hello Kitty 6-inch vinyl figure by Tara McPherson. We are celebrating 50 years of Sanrio, here, people, which makes me feel hella old. But this lineup of artist-designed Hello Kitty figures is looking amazing. Look for more designs released in the near future by some Kidrobot heavyweight artists. Can't tell you who but if you're a Google ninja you can prolly figure some out.

I was fortunate to recently meet up with Simeon Lipton, creator of upcoming Art Hustle art cards, and I scored some prototype cards from the series:

The Art Hustle is a set of artist and art-based trading cards, and exhibits an international group of 75 artists working in street art, toy art, kaiju, sketch, illustration, painting, aerosol art, poster art, tattoo art, digital art, collage, sculpture, photography and more.

Inspired by trading cards produced from the 1960's through the 80's, the set offers up some vintage-inspired flavor including chipboard card stock and the much-loved wax paper wrapper.

The Art Hustle is a new frontier in Art and Trading Cards, and a hell of a lot of fun. Boxes are limited.
