Huck Gee x Clutter x CUBO SKLFKR 20-Inch Mecha Skully Robot Figure

by

Clutter and The Designer Toy Awards are excited to announce a brand-new project with Toy of the Year 2015, and Artist of the Year 2015 DTA winner, Huck Gee! Introducing – SKLFKR!! 20 inches of mecha, skull-laden, robotic awesomeness!

As part of winning those prestigious DTA awards, Huck was provided a sponsorship to work with 3D printing technology to bring to life a brand new creation. Huck wasted no time and went to work. What came back blew us away!
"The mission of the DTA's is to celebrate and honor the art of designer toy creators all over the world.  When we helped arrange this sponsorship for the winner of Artist of the Year we didn’t know what would be created - Huck Gee jumped on this opportunity and brought it to a new level! Seeing the SKLFKR come to life over the last year has been an amazing journey." - Miranda O'Brien (Clutter & the DTA's)
To make this dream a reality we partnered with 3D sculpting and printing masters, CUBO  – the only team we knew could pull this off. Helping us bring this massive project to reality, Cubo 3D sculpted, rendered and printed this mighty beast.  Not only that, they engineered and constructed a series of 3D printed gaskets in order to joint the SKLFKR and give it 7 points of articulation!!
"Take us to your leader...WE DO NOT COME IN PEACE!"  - Victor D.L.A (Cubo).
Literally standing at 20" tall, this piece will be cast in resin and hand assembled here in NYC by Clutter Studios. More release information will be announced soon.
Over a year in the making and it's a Giant!
"Because mechs and laser beams. Because skulls, spikes and giant axes. Because destroy. Because crushing it. Because SKLFKR." - Huck Gee

COMPETITION TIME!

As part of its release into the world,  Five Points Festival is giving away the very special first pull of this monumental release! To enter the competition visit the Facebook Page here. Good Luck!!

Tenacious.Ninja Blog Is a Finalist in the Designer Toy Awards - VOTE NOW

by
In what seems to be a horrible mistake on the part of the clearly overworked people at Clutter, this blog (yeah, like the one you are reading) has made the finals of this year's Designer Toy Awards. We snuck into the Best Blog Category through underhanded dealings and suspect vote-riggin... I mean, THROUGH HARD FUCKING WORK and dedicated blogging! (I'd like to thank our dedicated team of Ninjas for blogging like champs for years with style and grace. This is a community blog, YOU can blog here too. Just email me. Maybe we will all win!)

HAHA! I always try to maintain a healthy dose of big-picture thinking when it comes to the DTAs. I feel like the whole shebang is good for designer toys or whatever the fuck we are calling them. I don't really care who wins, I just like spending time with my friends and seeing everyone. Cool the see people get all choked up on stage. All the artists work so damn hard for so little, a tiny smidge of recognition feels so good for everyone... even if they won't admit it.

So go click here and cast your vote for all the public-voted categories... voting closes on MONDAY September 26, so really, go now. Don't put it off. Maybe we will win this year so we can rub the big ass trophy in Gary's face...

Final hours to submit a Nomination for DTA 2016

by
Time is running out to submit a nomination or five for this years Designer Toy Awards. If you have a favorite store, toy, artist, blog, or anything that fits one of the many categories, head on over to Designer Toy Awards and submit a nomination. The great thing about these open nominations is that anyone and anything can technically be nominated initially. Of course, the nominations will get dwindled down behind the scenes by a random group of people but at the very least, this is a chance to get some lesser known artists more attention. So, if for those who will complain later about some artists not getting the recognition he/she deserves, be sure to at least submit that nomination. Submitting a DTA nomination is quite literally the least someone could do to help get an artist some news. Soon, it'll be "Vote early, vote often".

6th Annual Designer Toy Awards Nominations Now Open

by
With SDCC 2016 all wrapped up, attention starts to turn towards Designer Con 2016 and NYCC 2016. This year at NYCC, Designer Toy Awards will have it's 6th annual ceremony, celebrating the Designer Toy world. Nominations for the DTAs are now open and registered users can begin nominating his/ her favorite artists, blogs, toy shops, collections and more. Something new for this years DTAs is the new award for "Best Non-Licensed" toy. This new category is geared towards the resin slingers and bootleg specialists who often create new toys, using an unofficially licensed or bootlegged IP. Whether or not this includes custom multiples inspired by entertainment IP is really up to the DTA Nomination Committee who will filter all of the nominations down to a list deemed appropriate. So, for those who think they know of an artist who deserves consideration to be nominated, head on over to the DTA website, register and submit some nominations. Nominations are only open until August 6th, 2016, so don't delay and start nominating.

Designer Toy Awards Trading Cards

by

This year's Designer Toy Awards spotlighted some truly amazing artists and the people and companies that support them.  One of the best of among was the Tenacious Toys toy store (but I'm a little bias).  Now Designer Toy Awards has partnered with Sidekick Lab to bring fans of designer toys a set of collector cards featuring the finalists from this years awards.  The set includes 177 base cards, 27 variants, special signature cards, and Golden Ticket Redemption cards.  Those Golden Tickets can win you everything from original art to one-off Designer Toys, print, hand painted customs, and even a complete trading card subset pack!
Each pack will cost $5 apiece and contain 8 random cards, though the true collector will definitely want one of the only 100 made Factory Sets, which include all the following in a special foil-stamped box for only $85:

All 177 base cards in the series;
all 27 variant cards in the series;
one random signature card;
one Golden Ticket Redemption Card; and
we'll even hand you one of the promo only Hello Kitty x KISS cards!

Packs and boxes are available throughout the 2013 New York Comic Con at Clutter Magazine's Booth #504 and SideKick Lab's Booth #203.

These will also be available at the 3rd Annual Designer Toy Awards ceremony itself, taking place on the night of Saturday, October 12th at Hudson Terrace NYC (621 West 46th Street, New York, NY 10036), with doors opening at 8PM. Tickets to attend the ceremony are currently on sale here.

Mega Munny Shadowling By Shadoe Delgado

by

Shadoe Delgado has been busy cooking up some big big sculpture! One of which, his first Mega Munny, is this Mega Shadowling.

Created for Oakland Museum's Exhibition "We Customize", Shadoe has applied a whole lot of custom sculpting in those teeth and texturing. Along with a big, and very real, set of antlers. Most of the sculpting took place over the weeks leading up to Shadoe's on-site demo in residency, where he showed off his paint application techniques.

The Exhibit stays up until June 2, when this big fella will go up in Shadoe's shop, with a return to commission work in June. Though, we've heard there is a bit of a list, which is not suprising from a DesignerToyAwards Break Through Artist Nominee. Inquire a piece at shadoedelgado@gmail.com

Designer Toy Awards Nominations Open

by

We're happy to announce that from May 1st until May 15th that the Designer Toy Awards, aka the DTAs, will be accepting open nominations in a variety of categories from both professionals and fans alike!
Having learned from the previous two years of the DTAs, we've continued to refine and restructure the nomination, voting, and finalist procedure to help ensure quality winners while still garnering input from the entire community.
First off, we're making the eligibility period for nominees completely year based: if it came out in 2012, then it can be nominated for these 3rd Annual DTAs.
We've also launched the awards with a select list of nominees already entered, but we still need your input. Please nominate anything we missed in any of the categories! And Fan Favorite and Best Collection start with no nominees in them, so it is completely up to you to fill them up!
Speaking of categories, we've continued to refine those as well. Best Toy from a Comic and Best Licensed Product have been merged into one category called Best Media Tie-in, which encompasses any production piece derived from any mass media release — movie, tv show, comic book, novel, whatever. The scope of the Best Self-produced category has been refined and expanded by converting it into Best Resin, which is a nice counterpart to the new Best Vinyl category.
And then there is Toy of the Year, which will no longer have nominees entered directly into it. All the finalists in Toy of the Year will be the highest publicly voted upon nominees within the following categories: Best 1/6th Scale, Best Collaboration, Best Media Tie-In, Best Mini Series, Best Plush, Best Resin, Best Sofubi, Best Vinyl, and Outstanding Production. Basically, if it is a toy and it gets tons of love from the public, then it will be a finalist for Toy of the Year!
So Get Nominating…
Head on over to the Designer Toy Awards website, review the current list of nominees, and please answer our Call For Entries by adding anyone worthy that isn't already included!
