FOLLOW UP: Waste from Russia - Beaяs & Pяimats

by
Following up on our previous blog post where we introduced you to Waste, a toymaker from lovely lakeside Petrozavodsk in western Russia, we have some follow-up info! I guess he noticed our post!

His real name is Alexandr Bud'kin aka WAS+E / 2013. As a child he was constantly drawing comics, and sculpting figures of heroes of films. He discovered designer toys in 2004 (just like me and Steph!) and that was his starting point for toymaking. Now he is working on a series of figures based on his doodle drawings: Beaяs & Pяimats. He's working in parallel on several projects:
1. working with a Russian brand of street wear
2. making figures for his friend @pashabumazhniy
3. creating some figures with a Russian hip-hop artist

More info on those projects will be sent to us soon, but for now we have these images of his drawings and the start of his toy creation process in the Beaяs & Pяimats series.
здорово встретиться с вами , Александр

Next SUPER SERIES SUNDAYS Release: Atomic Blue Corn Bearrito Rubber Figure by Diehm Studios

by
The Bearrito 2-inch rubber figure by Diehm Studios is a M.U.S.C.L.E. scale minifigure made out of "production" feel industrial rubber. This design, a collaboration between Jeff DeSantis (Bleeding Edges) and Diehm Studios, was an entry for the OMFG S5 line up.

Martin of Diehm Studios came up with the Bearrito concept, consulting with Jeff for the execution of the conceptual art, graphic design and header cards. Martin described the OMFG S5 as a "tough competition" and decided to produce the design himself here in the US. Martin sculpted, prototyped and produced the figure himself out of safe and tough industrial urethane rubber.

The metallic blue coloration, a Tenacious Toys Exclusive, comes from the addition of Boo Blue Magic Pearl Metallic Solar Color Dust. Bearritos will come bagged with a header card.

The Atomic Blue Corn Bearrito will go up for sale at 8PM EST on Sunday, May 17th on the Tenacious Toys Super Series Sundays page. Bearritos are $15 and these will be made to order, with an order window of exactly one week. Orders will be closed on Sunday May 24th.

Find this piece here on Sunday:

Luke Chueh's Dissected Kickstarter FUNDED

by
Huge congrats to the Clutter team and to this guy right here
for a successful Kickstarter!

This KS campaign funded the creation of a 6x6x5.5 inch vinyl bear head with a cutaway to reveal a human skull.

I backed this one, I've made it no secret that Luke is one of my favorite artists.

Just wanted to give him a shout and let him know that we are overjoyed with each of his successes.

To learn more about Luke Chueh and his hard-hitting and very personal artwork, check his site here.

Luke also has a show of his painting running right now at Rotofugi. A lot of the pieces have sold, but there are still a few remaining to pick up. Check the page here.

My Bomb to Bear by Cole Brenner drops September 21 for Super Series Sundays

by

Cole Brenner [ColeBrenner.com] is bringing his graphic design style to the toy world with the release of “My Bomb to Bear.” Five blue My Bomb to Bear figures were created for a Tenacious Toys Super Series Sundays release on September 21. The custom boxed toys have a bear strapped to a rocket that's mid-flight; each 3.5in resin figure is individually hand cast & painted.

Cole's experience as an apparel designer for J!NX & TAPOUT has been translated into his personal artwork which packs a dark & humorous punch.

“Its been the hardest and greatest year of my life. The change of focus from a Freelance Designer [BRENNERds.com] to a stay-at-home dad, and now to full time Artist & Toy Studio. The spark that motivated this change is the recent loss of my dad [comedian David Brenner], who had made it to Boulder, CO for the birth of my first son Wesley in November, but in April he passed away after battling cancer. I keep a photo of my dad and I on my work table, so he is with me in spirit. After his passing, my brother Wyatt and I went into a frenzy casting and painting. Now the toys are for sale on ColeBrenner.com and on the bottom of each box is a small “HEART, Dad” the signature of every email he sent me.”

The five My Bomb to Bear figures allocated to Tenacious Toys (above) contain one tentacled chase and four regular blue colorway figures. This Super Series Sundays release will take place at 6PM on Sunday September 21, 2014. Each blind-boxed piece will be $65.

The entire My Bomb to Bear series is made up of 60 blind-boxed pieces. Some Chase versions have missing limbs with metal caps, Tentacles and more fun madness.

Luke Chueh: HEADS at Clutter Gallery May 10

by
SATURDAY: MAY 10TH, 2014 (BEACON, NY)

CLUTTER GALLERY PRESENTS: LUKE CHUEH "HEADS" (plus Scott Tolleson)

From Luke:
This May, Clutter Gallery will be the hosting my upcoming mini solo show, "Heads". Clutter Magazine & Gallery are best known for their coverage of the Art/Designer toy scene. As such, we felt that this would be a good opportunity for me to do a show that was very different from my normal paintings-on-canvas shows. Starting with the shape of my bear's head and casting an 8" in diameter rotocast version of it, we created a unique platform for me to build this show on.

The show is also actually a two person show. I'll be sharing the gallery with my friend and colleague Scott Tolleson.

This is also one of my first major exhibitions on the east coast. I realize it's actually in Upstate New York, but I hope to see you there.

Opening Reception:

Saturday, May 10th, 2014 (6PM - 9PM)
163 Main Street

Beacon, NY 12508
