Kaiju Frankenstein by Touma x Nathan Hamill

by

October is the month of monsters and creatures and 3D Retro is running with the theme by hosting several events in the month of October to celebrate short films, vinyl toys and Halloween. One of the events being held at 3D Retro is the US release of a figure designed by Nathan Hamill and Touma called Kaiju Frankenstein. Initially released and debuted at the Taipei Toy Festival, Kaiju Frankenstein(misnomer ignored) is a 5" vinyl figure that appears to be half kaiju and half Frankenstein's monster. Packaged in a window box, this OG colorway is limited to just 125 pieces and is priced at $55 each. 3D Retro will be hosting the release event on October 22nd from 6pm-11pm at their Glendale store. Nathan Hamill is expected to be on hand at the event for signings and Touma is expected to make the trip over from Japan as well. It's likely that more colorways will follow this release but no official word has been announced as of yet.

We are very excited to have a number of items from both Japanese artists and American artists, all produced in Japan. Sofubi is soft vinyl made in Japan, so acquiring items like this is always a little harder than the typical purchase for us. Luckily we have some sofubi artists who still think we are cool, and here are their offerings - all exclusively painted / executed for our booth:
  • Exclusive Dragonfire Bangagon by GUUMON. 8.5" tall, sofubi, limited to 5 pieces. $250.
  • Exclusive Rainbow Sparkle Daigomi by GUUMON. 8.5" tall, sofubi, limited to 5 pieces. $250.
  • Pink Rotten X custom sofubi by Rampage Toys. Vinyl, 10 pieces, $150.
  • RAMPAGE x KONATSUYA Ugly Onicorn (Blue Ver.) 34 pieces available at $45 each.
  • Painted Micro Sofubi (Unicorns and Hipster Shitmen by Rampage Toys). 25 pieces at $10 each.
  • Unpainted Mixed Parts Micro Sofubi by Rampage Toys: 13 pieces at $5 each.
  • Candy Colors Bunny Bear 4-pack of micro sofubi by Rampage Toys. 10 sets at $20 per set.
  • Cyclops Dinos 3-piece set by Rampage Toys.  9 sets at $40 per set.
  • Touma Pico Mao Figure Tenacious Exclusive. 1.5" tall, limited to 50 pieces, $15 each.
All of the above items available on a first-come, first-served basis at NYCC Booth 309 in the center of The Block.

In addition to the plethora of beautiful Rampage Toys exclusives listed above, Jon Malmstedt will be bringing in another huge set of his pieces for his signing at 10AM on Saturday morning. As always, Jon's items are first-come, first served so if you're looking to pick up his "special" pieces, you will have to show up at Booth 309 at 10AM sharp on Saturday.

SNEAK PEEK: Touma x Mark Nagata MaxxBots

by
Just stumbled upon a discreet post by Mark Nagata (MaxToyCo) regarding the Maxxbots - a collab between Mark and Touma. Two extremely talented and fun toy designers that I really enjoy. I asked Mark for a bit more info and here's what he gave us:

The Maxxbot and Maxx Sentry figures were designed by Mark Nagata and sculpted by Makino-san of TTToys. Touma's Dark Robots were his design and also sculpted by Makino-san.

MaxToyCo has only released the glow Maxxbots in a Max Toy Lucky bag that came and went in December.

A more proper release in a different vinyl color will be coming soon, with fully painted one later down the road.

For now, we have these images:
