Brace Face Mickey by Alison Perez for PlayImaginative

by
Alison Perez (aka Miss Zukie) share with us the sweet and awkward Mickey custom she made for the PlayImaginative Mickey show: Brace Face Mickey! This Mickey "studies hard and never gets the girl. His favorite thing to do is read the dictionary."
The PI Mickeys are 6" tall and this one has dorky glasses.
Check out more by Alison here on her blog.

Walt Mickey custom by Ian Ziobrowski

by
Ian Ziobrowski isn't all nuggs and thugs... here he flexes his considerable painterly skills with the custom Mickey vinyl figure by PlayImaginative. Walt Mickey features a dead-on portrait of Walt Disney on Mickey's face. Damn eerie, and beautiful. I am sure Walt would have loved it.

Next, Ian will sculpt Walt's disembodied, cryogenically frozen head in a jar.

Follow Ian on Facebook here and check out the rest of the customs in this show here.

Dave Webb Joker Mickey custom for PlayImaginative show

by
In an awesome departure from his more common hand-sculpted monsters, Dave Webb (aka DAVEMARKART) applies his considerable skills to the PlayImaginative Mickey platform for their online custom show showcasing the 6" Mickey Mouse vinyl figure

Love the detailed accessories on this custom! Sick work by Dave, as always.

You can follow Dave on Facebook and buy his custom figures at his shop. I'd love to see more DAVEMARKART pieces based on pop culture characters, I think this one turned out great.

Swamp Ghoul Mickey Mouse custom by We Become Monsters

by
Friend of Tenacious Toys Christopher Moore (We Become Monsters) was invited to participate in PalyImaginative's Mickey Mouse custom show, using their 6" blank Mickey platform (which sadly, is not licensed for distribution in the U.S.). This is Christopher's Swamp Ghoul Mickey, which was created using acrylic, resin, epoxy, and spices on vinyl. Yes, it is spicy!

You can follow Christopher Moore here:

AW177 custom Mickey Mouse figure for PlayImaginative

by
Our good friend, local artist AW177, got one of the 6.5" Mickey platforms in the mail from PlayImaginative, and in true AW177 style, he used bold graphics and cultural iconography to create this "Dragon Ninja" custom.

Allen writes:
I have a bit of news - I was asked by Play Imaginative to custom one of their 6.5" Mickey Mouse vinyl art figures.  This piece will be displayed at shows by Disney/Play Imaginative and will be up on their website.

To celebrate the year of the dragon 2012, I made Mickey into a "Dragon Ninja", complete with equipment belt, shurikens, pouches for gear, striking/climbing knives, dragon claws on feet and hands, and nunchucks! You can place the nunchucks into the back for storage.  Dragon symbol on the upper ear, black outlines to give it a more animated/cartoon feel.  This is my real first time sculpting, but I'm happy with the results.

This custom is based on one of the designs I submitted to Play Imaginative/Disney for possible production, so if you like to see it made, please let them know!

Pictures are up on my Flickr.

Custom Mickeys by Don P and Shawn Wigs

by
So PlayImaginative, it seems, has taken a page out of my own playbook and is putting up an online custom show here focusing on their new Mickey Mouse DIY platform. I've seen a ton of cool pieces from my circle of artists (thanks Facebook) but here are two from guys that specifically reached out to me: Don P and Shawn Wigs. Don P's piece above is called WARZONE Mickey. I don't think Shawn named his piece (below) but it's a hella creepy clown. All clowns are creepy to me. You can find out more about Don P here, and you can follow Shawn here (both are Facebook links). To see other customs in this show, go here.

Joe Ledbetter Chinese Zodiac mini figures

by
Joe Ledbetter just released images of his upcoming vinyl mini figure series, coming in 2011 from PlayImaginative: the Chinese Zodiac figures!
12 figures, corresponding with the 12 different animals in the Chinese calendar. I'm assuming that these will be blind-boxed (don't hold me to that) and that they'll be about 3 or 3.5 inches high (don't hold me to that either). Joe says they'll be released 2011, and aside from that we have no other info. But these figures look like an INCREDIBLE follow-up to JLED's fun Finders Keepers series released a while back by Kidrobot. I think we've all been waiting for some more JLED mini figures, haven't we?
Email us if you're interested in these; please write JLED ZODIAC in the subject line and tell us how many figures you want, or if you want a sealed case. (We might also do open-box sales once we have them in stock)
We sell first to those of you who contact us in advance.
