Coarse Toys Paw Golden God custom from Big C

by

A group of archaeologists found a glowing stone, while traveling through the jungle overnight.  The next day they realized that this mysterious stone belonged to a giant statue dedicated to the golden god.  During the excavation process, one of the workers was mortally wounded, and as soon as the first drop of blood hit the statue, the statue awakened, as the stone turned to gold. This piece represents the golden god, mid-transformation.

Big C has done it again, this time using his talents to transform a Raw Paw (Coarse Toys) into the Golden God. I love the way he captured the effects of aged stone that has been sitting in the jungle, partially covered in moss and dirt.  The transition from stone to gold is seamless and the greenish eyes and blood give this piece just enough color to make it pop.  Oh....and did I mention that it glows?  The glow on this piece is amazing.

Big C created this piece for his own personal collection, but he is willing to field offers.

Custom Coarse False Friends Set by Jon-Paul Kaiser

by
http://www.tenacious.ninja/2015/10/custom-coarse-false-friends-set-by-jon.html
Jon-Paul Kaiser always does amazing work when customizing any Coarse Toys figures. Jon-Paul's latest completed commission is no different. A Coarse Toys False Friends Noop and Paw set, which is pretty rare to find now-a-days, was offered up as custom fodder by a private client, for Jon-Paul to tackle. Created as a Superhero and Archenemy duo, Paw was created as the superhero, while Noop became the Archenemy(possibly a former Protege). As with many JPK customs, mainly paint was applied, to create shadows and depth for each figure in the set. Definitely a very nice piece for a lucky collector. As always, all the amazing pictures were captured by Justin Allfree. For those on the fence about getting a commission from JPK, might want to get on the list sooner than later.

Coarsetoys Custom PAW by Jon-Paul Kaiser

by
Jon-Paul Kaiser's latest completed commission is a Star Wars/Eastern themed Coarsetoys PAW. When working on custom figures, Jon-Paul likes it when details of the original figure, or sculpt, can be seen. With nearly all of the original sculpt kept from the PAW figure, Jon-Paul wanted to re-sculpt the head of the PAW figure to look more like the Star Wars Stormtrooper helmet. Jon-Paul not only succeeded at creating the helmet, he was also able to work in parts of the original sculpted head, albeit the ears were lopped off. Overall, the completed piece is simple and clean, with tons of detail on both of the arms of the figure. When Jon-Paul took the completed figure to be photographed by Justin Allfree (who does all the photography for Jon-Paul's work), Justin loved the piece so much that he got a bit carried away with all the photos he took. Be sure to keep an eye on Jon-Paul's social media pages for more shots of the Stormtrooper PAW, especially the detail shots of the arms.

Custom PAW! and Androids by Fuller

by

James Fuller, of Fuller Designs, has been kind of quiet as of late. However, he always seems to be working on something. Whether it's completing customs pieces for his own mini Series or a custom commissioned wedding topper, Fuller keeps a steady flow of work. I've always been a fan of Fuller's work and his latest commission work is outstanding. I am definitely digging the White Rabbit custom, which uses Coarse's PAW from the False Friends release. From Fuller's description of the piece, it's just half of a set which is going to also include a Mad Hatter, which I imagine is going to be made off of the NOOP figure. I'm looking forward to what else Fuller has in store for the custom toy world.

SouthernDrawl JAWS vs PAW custom

by
Talented and humble customizer SouthernDrawl shares with us this ridiculous custom based on the Coarse Toys PAW figure, easily one of my favorite sculpts! SD does it up right, with weathering, rivets and detailed sculpting which makes other customizers drool... and that's the highest compliment possible! Here's what SD had to say about this piece:

This piece was a commission. I love the dynamic movement of the PAW figure but I was never really sold on the bunny head so I did the only thing a customizer could do, i decapitated it. And it sat headless for a while until I realized that I could reuse the head. and who better to kill a bunny than an apex predator? And so I bulked up the figure even further to accentuate the leg and back musculature. and I added joints- elbow joints, wrist joint, etc. I tried to continue the flow of the figure by adding a curved tail which also helps as a counterweight to the head. With regard to my painting technique, the short answer is sponge painting (I"m giving away the my secret jutsu there LOL). My favorite thing about this piece is that it's inspiring me to do more original sculpting even if it's still customizing on a platform.

NEW FROM COARSE TOYS: False Friends- Life of Lies Set

by

false friends – life of lies
coarse double art figure release

coarse unveils their long anticipated 'false friends' series, a set of two original vinyl statues. The release incorporates key coarse characters 'paw!', a monkey cross rabbit, and 'noop', a human like being, as they portray another episode in the ongoing coarse story. This time the dissimilar pair aspire to become companions - even at the price of their own identities. Demonstrating the underlying complexity of the brand, this series delivers yet another dimension to the world of coarse.

The German artist duo behind coarse, once again showcase their distinctive aesthetic. Their forms are dominated by smooth curves, hard lines and sharp edges, combined to point of a unity. In past years, coarse has become renowned for its definitive style, its meticulous attention to detail and the vivid dreamscapes painted by its story line. Recent coarse releases have almost always sold out instantaneously, and the scope of the latest offering proves why the brand has such an increasing worldwide presence amongst art toy and fine arts collectors.

In this chapter of the coarse narrative, the young noop begins to mimic the appearance of his natural enemy, paw!, a tactic to secure his own survival. However, after being acknowledged as a paw!, the noop becomes trapped behind this mask forever. A dangerous and fragile friendship takes its course.

This rare edition includes 'the colossal paw! and a freshly hatched noop, robed in his heavenly soft paw! suit.' The 13'' vinyl pair comes in glowing spring colors, put to sleep between two cotton pillows, every one embroidered with the individual running number. Safely packed in a hand crafted wooden box with a monkey rabbit nose handle and enclosed with a rubberband.

about the artists

Works for the coarse world began in 2003, when German artists Mark Landwehr and Sven Waschk started a distinct style of sculpting that looked almost as if they had chiseled and exposed the figures from three dimensional stone.

The streamlined sculptures are hand crafted and finished at the coarse workshops in Hamburg and Hong Kong. The artists focus primarily on statues, that range from small to life size, made from resin and/or fiberglass. Their work also includes photography, prints and objects, combining all aspects to create holistic pieces of art. Pieces that convey an alternate reality. A fiction brand.

By using traditional toy production techniques, the original art objects, 'coarse originals', are transformed into vinyl figures under the 'coarsetoys' imprint.

Living in two separate cultures, the artists blend eastern and western aesthetics, a possible explanation for the brand's popularity worldwide. coarse figures are currently available in art toy stores and galleries across 18 countries worldwide.

After several successful solo exhibitions in recent years, coarse goes on to display new and original works in Paris and Chicago in 2010.
