STX Taps Hasbro to Handle UglyDolls Toys in Advance of Uglydolls Movie

STX Entertainment and Hasbro are joining forces in advance of the UglyDolls movie.

STX has high hopes for the whimsically unconventional line of plush dolls and it's enlisting Hasbro to be its global toy licensee. UglyDolls first hit store shelves in 2001, the brainchild of David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim.

Throughout their decade-plus history of adorable ugliness the toys have been more a novelty item than a mass-market commodity. STX wants to change that by working with Hasbro, one of the world's largest toy manufacturers. Prior to the deal, Horvath and Kim had handled manufacturing of the dolls before tapping Gund, a maker of plush products, to create the items. That pact with Gund has expired. The UglyDolls movie opens in 2019 and is being directed by Robert Rodriguez ("Spy Kids").

STX is a relatively new player in Hollywood. It launched in 2014 and has produced such movies as "Bad Moms," "The Gift," and the upcoming Amy Schumer comedy "I Feel Pretty." Along with its films, the company is backing such TV programs as "Valley of the Boom" and also recently announced it is doing a virtual reality show with Rodriguez and Michelle Rodriguez.

"When Robert Simonds conceived of STX over three years ago, the idea was to build a global media company with entertainment properties that could seamlessly move across all platforms," said Adam Fogelson, Chairman of STXfilms, in a statement. "In UglyDolls, we have exactly that - a universally appealing brand with the potential to reach a massive audience on every screen and experience, and a meaningful way into animation. It is incredibly exciting to take this next big step with a company of Hasbro's global reach, experience and influence to bring the 'Uglyverse' to longtime fans and new audiences."

The UglyDolls brain trust also praised the pact.

"We've been fans of Hasbro's toy lines for ages, and are great admirers of their creativity and aesthetic sensibility. We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Hasbro and STX Entertainment on the UglyDolls franchise."

In addition to the upcoming feature film, STX has UglyDolls projects in the works across the company's multiple divisions, including its television, virtual reality, and games arms.

The global master toy deal between STX Entertainment and Hasbro was brokered by Stephanie Sperber at White Space Entertainment.

Irresponsibility - the Mr. Toast Card Game by Dan "Mr. Toast" Goodsell

Mr. Toast, Dan Goodsell, recently launched an Indiegogo to fund the creation of "Irresponsibility the Mr Toast Card Game". For the last 6 months or so, Mr. Toast has been working on creating the Mr. Toast Card Game. With Table Top games becoming more and more popular, thanks to Kickstarter, Hasbro Gaming Lab actually launched a contest to find the "Next Great Game". Mr. Toast decided to enter his game and out of over 500 entries, the Mr. Toast Card Game was chosen as one of the 5 finalist. To collaboration with Hasbro Gaming Lab, Indiegogo became the crowdfunding platform which will play a role in deciding the winner of the contest. The 5 Indiegogo campaigns will end on December 1, while the Grand Prize winner will be chosen by Hasbro on December 3rd. The Grand Prize Winner will be awarded $10k and a trip to Hasbro HQ to help make the party game become more of a reality. For all those who read this, take some time to read Mr. Toast's Indiegogo campaign and make a pledge to the campaign. If funds are low, why not just spread the news and help get the campaign in front of as many eyes as possible. With several reward tiers, there is something for everyone, in addition to copies of the card game. Are You Ready for the My Little Pony Movie?

Hasbro is partnering with Lionsgate to bring its My Little Pony franchise to the big screen.

The news comes just a month after the partners also announced plans for a live-action film based on Hasbro's Monopoly board game.

Meghan McCarthy, writer and producer for the "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" animated series will pen the screenplay, which will be produced by Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures.

The film, which will be Hasbro’s first animated feature, will be distributed and marketed globally (except in China) by Lionsgate, and Tony and Emmy award-winning actress Kristin Chenoweth has already been tapped to voice one of the characters.

“We are thrilled to expand the My Little Pony story to the big screen, and take these beloved characters on a new and unexpected journey that will delight fans of all ages,” says Stephen Davis, chief content officer, Hasbro. “It’s an honor to add Kristin Chenoweth to the cast as the voice of an all new, never-before-seen My Little Pony character in the film. Her incredible Broadway and silver screen performances in 'Wicked, 'Glee' and many more make her the perfect fit for this animated, musical adventure.”

In the movie, a new dark force threatens Ponyville, and the Mane 6 must embark on a journey beyond Equestria to save their home.

GI Joe Show SubUrban Vinyl Sneak Peeks

May 31 will see the opening of a dynamite GI Joe themed exhibition at SubUrban Vinyl. SubUrban Vinyl and Tenacious Toys, in conjunction with The Loyal Subjects and Hasbro, are putting on an event overflowing with artwork, toys, prints, official props, and more.

The artist lineup for the show is fit to burst, with Work-In-Progress and final reveals pouring in from all sides. We'll expect to see custom 3" Joes, licenced by The Loyal Subjects from Hasbro, contributed by;
