Announcing Resin Is King Series 3 Release at NYCC

by

When do you announce new releases and/or NYCC drops? There's no clear right answer... I say, it's when half of your artists start posting about the series, that's about when you should think about making an official announcement!

We are very proud and excited to announce another series of beautiful, handcrafted resin sculptures: Resin is King Series 3. Resin Is King is a concept that Brian (Dead Hand Toys) and I came up with a few years back. There have been many production BB toy series, and several super tight custom Dunny and custom mini figure series that set a high benchmark for home-brew series. But, really, nothing for resin collectibles. So we did it ourselves.

Here are the details: Resin Is King is a blind-boxed series (mystery figures packaged in identical boxes). All pieces are just under 3" tall. For Series 3, we have 10 artists each contributing 10 pieces for a total of 100 blind boxes. Each artist's 10-piece run will be the same sculpt, but possibly involve different color variants and/or chase variants. The series will include a Golden Ticket (or maybe more than one?) included randomly inside the boxes. Each blind box will be $30. Boxes will include a numbering system on the bottom which will allow buyers to avoid picking 2 boxes from the same artist, without disclosing which artist's piece is inside. See? We are getting smarter!

We are now up to Series 3, releasing live at NYCC at our Booth #309 in The Block.

The Series 3 artist roster is as follows, all fine human beings who we are proud to call friends and business partners:
  • Taylored Curiosities
  • Mike NEMO Mendez
  • UME Toys - Rich Page
  • Dead Hand Toys
  • The Jelly Empire
  • Angry Artist
  • Argonaut Resins
  • Jacob JAMS
  • Magitarius
  • Forces of Dorkness
You might have run across our ad in the SDCC issue of Clutter (page 29, coincidentally just before the article about Penny of Taylored Curiosities!):

Hope to see many of you at our NYCC booth! Release will occur immediately when the floor opens.

Resin Is King Series 4 is slated for release Q2/Q3 of 2017.

New Pieces by One-Eyed Girl

by

One-Eyed Girl has a few brand new customs up for sale.  Morimugs is a 7" Custom Trikky.  I have no idea what kind of creature he is, but he's cute right?  He is retailing for $200.

Squeedley Dee is a 4" Custom Billy The Squid.  A very grumpy little squidy,  he retails for $100

Cocoa the chocolate bar is my personal favorite.  He is a 4" Custom Dookie-Poo retailing for $150

PREORDER Frederator x 1000toys 35Mechatro WeGo & Hatsune Miku Set

by
We had the distinct pleasure of hanging out a few times with the guys from 1000toys at SDCC, as well as attending their party at BAIT. SUPER COOL people so we are extra excited to offer our first 1000toys product to you: the 35Mechatro WeGo robot (50mm tall) and the appropriately-sized (1/35-scale) Hatsune Miku figure. This set will be $49.99 and will arrive later on this year. Super cute, super highly articulated, and frankly not that common to see in a US shop. Preorders available now.

We'd be very interested in fleshing out our 1000toys offerings, so if you love their products please do share this post and let us know.

Final hours to submit a Nomination for DTA 2016

by
Time is running out to submit a nomination or five for this years Designer Toy Awards. If you have a favorite store, toy, artist, blog, or anything that fits one of the many categories, head on over to Designer Toy Awards and submit a nomination. The great thing about these open nominations is that anyone and anything can technically be nominated initially. Of course, the nominations will get dwindled down behind the scenes by a random group of people but at the very least, this is a chance to get some lesser known artists more attention. So, if for those who will complain later about some artists not getting the recognition he/she deserves, be sure to at least submit that nomination. Submitting a DTA nomination is quite literally the least someone could do to help get an artist some news. Soon, it'll be "Vote early, vote often".

Preorder FIRESTARTER Sculpture by Harma Heikens & ToyQube

by

A new art sculpture by Harma Heikens, Firestarter is a 14" long polystone sculpture based on Harma's "A Good Year" & "Sorry" sculptures from her exhibition. Firestarter is sized to impress on a shelf, it sits upright, wheel ablaze, ready to roll on.

  • size: 14"L x 4"W x 10"H
  • material: polystone
  • produced by: ToyQube
  • arrival: Q4 2016
Artist's statement:
To me the burning tire refers to the popular revolt that we see a lot of these days. A gasoline-filled tire is a low-fi weapon, similar to the Molotov cocktail. But the "Wheel of Fire" is also an ancient religious symbol, referring to the sun an the motion of the earth, and the symbolic nature of fire is both creator and destroyer, purifier and defiler. The symbolic meaning of the burning wheel and the actual application of the burning tire as a violent means of revolution coincide, which makes the image extra powerful.
But it's of course also a symbol of speed- if you want it to be about formula 1 racing it's okay with me, it's never just one thing- and it's an obvious rock&roll reference too:

'This wheel's on fire, rolling down the road
Best notify my next of kin
This wheel shall explode!'
