by
http://bit.ly/C4K2017

Creatures for Kids is a unique charity art auction which donates all proceeds from sales of artists’ work to a local, child-focused non-profit organization.

In its fourth year, Creatures for Kids is excited to partner again with the Vinyl Thoughts Art Show, the largest vinyl toy show in Texas, at this year’s Vinyl Thoughts Art Show 7. More than 500 art lovers will gather in Deep Ellum at Quixotic World, 2824 Main Street on July 7, 2017 from 7:00pm-11:00pm. The show will provide a separate area featuring toy and art pieces donated by generous artists specifically to Creatures for Kids, who has chosen CHILDREN AT RISK as the sole beneficiary. CHILDREN AT RISK has been dedicated to comprehensively addressing children’s issues through research, community education, collaboration, and advocacy since 1989. All proceeds will help foster positive impacts for children in health, food insecurity, human trafficking, and education.

“It’s really been a blessing to work with such incredible artists and the great team at Children at Risk. This event is such a blast to work on and so fun to see so many artists join together to help such a great cause.” says Toby Grauberger, Founder of Creatures for Kids.

Along with a slew of great local and national artists, music, and drinks for guests, this free event will include over 20 artists who have donated resin and vinyl toys, prints and custom sculptures to Creature’s for Kids, featuring award winning toy artists The Bots, Mike Fudge, Seriously Silly K and many more incredible artists. The event has been generously sponsored by The UPS Store at Lemmon Ave and The Tollway, Dallas.

SoKo Cat Release - Vinyl Thoughts New York Submission (Concealed Contriteness)

by

Concealed Contriteness depicts six roaring 3" executioner Dunnys wielding an axe.  Once unmasked, however, we see that they are not actually aggressively roaring, but in fact, crying out in anguish.

These penitent people just want to go home, open some ale, and relax!  But they have a job to do.  Onward, dear friends.  You can drink your problems away tonight...

Each Dunny has been hand-painted with high-quality acrylics, and contains several hand-made additions: belt, hair wrap, axe and  hood.

Each figure comes signed and dated by SoKo Cat and are available for $55 a piece in her store.

Not for the younglings! Although a toy, it is a toy for youths ages 13 and up.

If you'd like to know more about SoKo Cat, you can visit her blog, follow her on Instagram, and check out her store!

Hit the jump for a ton more photos.

INTRODUCING: One-Eyed Girl

by
The Bat Man and Robin by One-Eyed Girl
So I was at the Vinyl Thoughts show in Brooklyn, mingling and checking out all the cool artwork when someone from the gallery walked by me and placed a big red dot ("SOLD!") next to this piece: "The Bat Man and Robin" by One-Eyed Girl... a new name, to me at least. This was one of the pieces that all the attendees commented on (along with the cute little blue booby-toucher piece by IROC Toys). I think a few of us just nodded to each other- "yeah, of course this one just sold"- the overall aesthetic was just really well-conceived and the piece has so much character. I love those crinkled eyelids! And the paintwork is so delicate and intricate. Great stuff.

A little while later I was back standing near this piece again when someone leaned over to take a close-up picture, so I asked him if he was the buyer. No, he said, he was here with the artist! And I turned around and there was One-Eyed Girl (aka Kasey)! Not often that I get to meet new toy artists. Anyway, Kasey is super nice and clearly very talented so I let her know I'd be interested in covering her pieces on this blog.

Here's what Kasey has to say about "The Bat Man and Robin:"
The Bat Man and Robin are a 7" Trikky and a Micro Foomi.  I had a lot of fun making these dudes and proud of the outcome so i hope you can share!

So, here ya go: One-Eyed Girl. Look for more cool customs from her soon!

Bubble Heroes by Hybrid

by

Well looks like an artist and event from my neck of the woods. Unfortunately I was not able to make it to Vinyl Thoughts 3 this year due to my day job, but this custom set designed and created by Hybrid are one of the great things to come out of the event. They were sold as individual boxes from a set of 20 and as a Heroes United set which included the complete set and an exclusive Wolverine: Weapon X dunny. The set included Captain America, Iron Man, Wolverine: Classic Brown Costume, The Hulk, Colossus, Iron Fist, Night Crawler, & Doctor Strange. A second set is in the works and has been hinted to be villains to contrast this first series. Check out Hybrid's website and see some of his other customs, paintings and what he currently has for sale.
