Plaseebo Brain Rider custom Jumping Brain

Bob Conge of Plaseebo sent us these images of his beautiful Brain Rider: a custom 5" Jumping Brain figure with Skulloctopus rider! Bob's intricate work and psychedelic colors are employed with great success in this custom. We were very lucky to have met Bob through our friends Osiris and NEMO, who have been working with him on various projects. Bob was on hand to sign at our NYCC 2011 booth- he was an island of cool amid the chaos of our cramped booth.

This is a custom 1 of 1 hand paint set of the Plaseebo Skulloctopus riding the Emilio Garcia Jumping Brain. The Skulloctopus is hand cast resin and the Jumping Brain is a 5" vinyl. Together the set measures 5" x 6" x 5" high. Signed and dated 2011.  $600.

You can purchase this piece here in the Plaseebo webstore.

Emilio Garcia Brain Pattern Qee by Toy2R

Emilio Garcia's Brain Pattern 8-inch Qee Bear in stock now for $64.

A little background info:

For the uninitiated, a "Qee" is what we call a "platform toy," or a toy with a standard basic shape which a manufacturer will decorate with numerous different paint jobs. The Qee is the flagship product of the 15-year-old Toy2R company, which is from Hong Kong. Toy2R was started in 1995 by a man named Raymond Choy, and since then it has developed into one of the most well-known and prolific vinyl toy manufacturers.

There are several different variations on the Qee platform: they come in different sizes (2.5 inches all the way up to 5 feet tall) and different head shapes. The above Qee shape is called a Qee Bear (or BearBearQ) because it has a vaguely bear-shaped head. The interesting brain pattern paint job applied to this Qee Bear was developed by a Spanish street artist named Emilio Garcia. Emilio has recently enjoyed international notoriety (at least in the designer toy world) due to his wildly popular Jumping Brain series of mini figures (also manufactured by Toy2R.) Emilio's first 8-inch Qee, therefore, also employed a brain theme, at least in the paint job he created.

Toy2R frequently uses designs created by popular artists and sends the designs into limited production on their Qees. Most artist Qees like the one above have a tiny production run of 500 pieces (sometimes less).

Emilio Garcia 5-inch Jumping Brain DIY vinyl

Coming in July-ish is the new 5-inch vinyl DIY (white) Jumping Brain by Emilio Garcia, made by Toy2R.

(Syringes not included. I don't think.) Anyway, we'll update this post with a link to the preorder later on when we're closer to release date. The 2" blind box Jumping Brains have proven to be incredibly popular, so we anticipate a lot of buzz for the 5" version!

Emilio Garcia 2-inch Jumping Brains in stock

Emilio Garcia's 2-inch Jumping Brain blind boxed mini figures are proving to be one of the fastest-selling releases from Toy2R in a long time! We've been rooting for Emilio for quite some time now, ever since we "met" him on Facebook. It's very satisfying to watch a new toy designer get picked up by one of the big boys and get an original toy produced! You can buy your Jumping Brain here for just $7 each.
