Dopey - Custom Jammie by Don P

by
One of Don P's, aka Patrick Lippe, most recent pieces is a custom Lil' Jammie titled "Dopey". Using one of Fuller Designs' Lil' Jammie figures, Don P created a re-sculpted head, while keeping the rest of the initial figure intact. Complete with dreadlocks and a type of smoking piece, the added paint and details were not enough for Don P. Don P's solution was to ask his wife to create a knitted cap for the custom, which does complete the overall look of this custom Lil' Jammie figure. Since this piece seems to be a commissioned one, it is not for sale. However, anyone interested in his/her own commissioned Don P custom should contact him for more info.

Pavomen the PeafOwl - Custom Painted by Toy Terror

by
Rich Sheehan, artist of Toy Terror, recently completed a custom creation using a Coarsetoys' Omen figure. Titled "Pavomen the PeafOwl", this custom Omen figure is painted to be disguised as a "cunning and colorful peacock". This was a commissioned piece, so it's not available, but anyone interested in a custom piece should contact Rich Sheehan at Toy Terror and get on his commission list.

The Man Inside - Custom Kozik Bust by Kevin Gosselin

by
More than a year after launching a successfully funded Kickstarter to produce the Dead Kozik bust, artist Kevin Gosselin is working his way through his custom Dead Kozik bust list. With 4 Kickstarter backers opting for the Custom Dead Kozik bust reward, Kevin had a good amount of work to put in. His latest custom Dead Kozik bust is titled "The Man Inside". Essentially sculpting over half of the bust, Kevin recreated the flesh version of Frank Kozik. The end result is an amazing Jason Freeny-esque piece, which will definitely make a collector pretty happy.

Oh, like with many of Kevin's projects, he decided to make a mold of the sculpt. It's quite possible for Kevin to create more of these customs in the future. Stay informed by following Kevin on his various social media sites, or better yet, keep an eye on Kevin's website.

3A Adventure Kartel Action Portable 1/12-scale figures up for preorder now

by
We now have all 14 of 3A's 1/12-scale Action Portable figures up for preorder on our website. I just paid them yesterday so once that payment clears, these items are shipping to us via Express from HK. I figure an arrival date of around Halloween-ish. These are 6-inch-tall figures priced at $45 each- a bargain as far as 3A is concerned.

I ordered VERY limited quantities so if you're looking for a specific figure (esp Cherry Bomb, Bleak Mission or Cold Merde) please don't wait... I don't expect many of these to last long. Buy 3 or more of them and get free shipping in the US.

On a related note, I've dropped the price on the 2 different Michonne's Pet 1/6-scale figures to $100.

MAD Toy Store Royal Sale

by
Kansas City not only produces some top notch sports teams, the city also is the home to a bunch of awesome artists. In 1985, the Kansas City Royals beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4 games to 3. Definitely a great series. Fast forward 29 years, not only did the Kansas City Royals finally make it to the playoffs after a 29 year drought, they are playing for all the marbles in the 2014 World Series. Now back to artists. KC based artist MAD is having a "Royal Sale!" to commemorate the Royals playing in the 2014 World Series. For as long as the 2014 World Series lasts, customers can use the promo code "RoyalKC" to receive 29% off his/her order. With KC on a nice undefeated Playoff run, having won every 2014 playoff game up to this point, MAD's sale will last at least until Saturday, October 25th. This is a perfect opportunity to add one or more pieces from MAD. Go Royals!

Coarsetoys Custom PAW by Jon-Paul Kaiser

by
Jon-Paul Kaiser's latest completed commission is a Star Wars/Eastern themed Coarsetoys PAW. When working on custom figures, Jon-Paul likes it when details of the original figure, or sculpt, can be seen. With nearly all of the original sculpt kept from the PAW figure, Jon-Paul wanted to re-sculpt the head of the PAW figure to look more like the Star Wars Stormtrooper helmet. Jon-Paul not only succeeded at creating the helmet, he was also able to work in parts of the original sculpted head, albeit the ears were lopped off. Overall, the completed piece is simple and clean, with tons of detail on both of the arms of the figure. When Jon-Paul took the completed figure to be photographed by Justin Allfree (who does all the photography for Jon-Paul's work), Justin loved the piece so much that he got a bit carried away with all the photos he took. Be sure to keep an eye on Jon-Paul's social media pages for more shots of the Stormtrooper PAW, especially the detail shots of the arms.

Mintyfresh x JLED Poker Monkey

by
I love some Joe Ledbetter toys.  His unique art style stands out in any collection.  Mintyfresh has the exclusive on this new Poker Monkey JLED figure.  He's got a grip of cards and a cheating bird on his shoulder and from the looks of it, he's not helping out Poker Monkey.  Hit up  www.mintyfresh.eu October 20th (hey, that's today!) at 1pm EST to grab yours for just 95 euros.  That's about $122 in American wing-wangs.  They're limited to 100 pieces so don't sleep.

Lego Series 12: Four figures, Three standouts, Second thoughts, First Impressions

by
So the new series of mini figures has become available in this part of the country (the Midwest) and I stopped by Toys R Us just yesterday to pick up a few random packs from Series 12.

Yes, "Series 12". NOT "Series 13" as evidently the set that featured all Simpsons characters prior to this one, is not part of the official series run.
I really love the variety and themes that Lego puts into these. If anything, I find myself gravitating to collecting these more than the sets. Sure some of it could be the cost, but I really like action figure collecting, and the minifigs have such a wide spectrum to them, it's become a sub collection I love filling out at any chance I get. Now, onto the four minifigs I randomly got...

The Wizard

"the Wizard" came with a wand, a fabric foil stamped cape, wizards hat, and a two piece staff. (Only 5 hours later, did I notice that I was supposed to COMBINE the two wands to create a STAFF... sorry, I was excited, I had a new photo booth I had just put together to use for this very update! I also evidently left off the top of his cloak as well...)

Such a Dumbledore sort of feel to this particular figure (from the first two Harry Potter movies, when he was portrayed by Richard Harris). The little details like the robe folds and the foil pattern on the cape, stand out on this particular minifig.

Piggy Guy (Cosplayer Pig)

The head sculpt of the mask and the green apple are the two accessories that came with Piggy Guy.
I know that Lego has officially named this one Piggy Guy, but I prefer Cosplayer Pig. I think it tends to follow the pop culture references of the rest of the series more if it is their homage to cosplaying. This, I believe is also the first minifig that has this much of this particular shade of pink plastic used throughout.

The Life Guard
The Life Guard came with two accessories, binoculars, and a floatation device (not pictured).

This figure is probably the weakest of the four that I picked up in this round. There is a lot that Lego got right with the design from the front. But the disconnect happens for me in a one two punch in the form of the fact that there is not one bit of musculature detail for his back (I mean, all that effort on the detail on the front, and then a giant block of cheese back?). Then, the second part comes in the fact that the beach shorts work from the front, complete with stitching, drawstrings, his initials, an embroidered patch... and you turn him around and BAM you got a Benny Hill moment in the form of  thong action from the back.

I get it, because of the connection holes, they decided to not put any graphics on the back of the legs, but the look is a bit jarring, and something of a shortfall considering how on Bart Simpson (who did not have connector holes, to be fair) DID have wrap around shorts.

Although I did not get into this particular series (I would much rather prefer a Futurama set), I was really impressed by the faithful design cues that Lego kept from the original character designs. I love the slingshot in his back pocket.

 The Swashbuckler

Packaged with a foil, a foppish hat with feather, and a lot of swagger.
The forth and final minifig pack I opened up was the Swashbuckler. I never did pick up the Musketeer figure from Series 4 (which as a diehard fan of the stories of Alexandre Dumas, is just shameful of me...), so this was a very welcome surprise pick.

Now, as you can see, on this minifig, they added BACK detail. The figure looks much more finished this way, and in this case, they very well could have left the detail on the shirt off on the back, but the sash and shirt look so much completed this way.

So there's my take on the first four minifigs I've gotten from this series. The good news is that the variety in this set is still as wide as ever, and there are some genuine standouts in the set.

The whole cast of minifigs out now in Series 12.

Until next time!

Soviet Tank Dunnys from DrilOne

by
DrilOne recently made a batch of Soviet Tank custom Dunnys available through his online store. Initially, the Dunny tanks were created to go along with the Kidrobot Art of War Dunny Series release and were highly sought after, since they were only included with DrilOne's AP Dunny sets. Now, DrilOne is making about 20 or so tanks available, each for $100 with free shipping in the US. Now, everyone should place an order and sell these out. That way, DrilOne can keep busy making these awesome little tank guys. Hopefully, this will lead to DrilOne creating an 8" version and maybe even a 20" version (of course both should be RC controlled!).
