GIVEAWAY: A 16GB Kaiju USB from USB Memory Direct

by

Alright everyone, it's GIVEAWAY time! This time around the prize is courtesy of USB Memory Direct, who recently launched a Kickstarter to help fund the production of Kaiju inspired USB drives, blogged about here. With the Kickstarter project slated to close in less than 30 days and lots of funding still to be had, Hector from USB Memory Direct has decided to help spread the word by giving away one of the 16 GB Kaiju USBs to one of you lucky readers. The Contest is simple, but it does involve two separate steps. First, do one of the following on either Twitter or Facebook:
  1. "Like" the USB Memory Direct Facebook page here and also "Like" the Tenacious Toys NYC page here. While you are on the Tenacious Toys NYC Facebook page, find the post about Kickstarter: Kaiju USB: Godai Guardians and "share" it.
  2. For those who use twiter: follow USB Memory Direct on Twitter here and Tenacious Toys here. Shoot out the following tweet: "I just entered to win a   from on http://goo.gl/Td20OT and you should enter too" without the quotes of course. Be sure to include the #KaijuUSB, since this is how we will track the entry.
In addition to one of the steps above, all entries must also do the following: Go to the blog post regarding the Kaiju USB Kickstarter, found here. While you are there, leave a comment to that blog post, telling us what animal you would like to see turned into a Kaiju USB. Every entry must include the comment to the blog post about the Kaiju USB Kickster to be valid. Who knows, if the Kickstarter is successful, in the future you might see your favorite animal get turned into a Kaiju USB by USB Memory Direct.

All entries must include both parts to be valid: Commenting on the Kickstarter Blog Post and either sharing the post on Facebook or Tweeting the tweet on Twitter. This contest is open to anyone worldwide and will run from now until Midnight PST on March 14th. A winner announced shortly there after. The winner will be notified via Google +, so make sure you have Tenacious Toys in your circle. The Winner will also be announced in a Comment to this blog post below, so be sure to check back after March 14th to see if you've won.

Hector from USB Memory Direct will ship the winner a 16GB version of one of the Kaiju USB, to anywhere in the world. The prize is going to be shipped from USB Memory Direct and not Tenacious Toys.
If you haven't checked out the Kickstarter for Kaiju USB, I suggest you do so ASAP. There are plenty of Reward Tiers to fit anyone's budget. Good Luck!

Lego Marvel - Iron Man 3 Extremis Sea Port Battle

by
(top image) Lego Marvel - Iron Man 3 Extremis Sea Port Battle box artwork, showcasing the elements of this midsized playset. (second image) Box contents: Single instruction manual, Lego Marvel comic book, small sheet of stickers, and two poly bags of Lego parts.
So I know this last time I said I was going to cover some Sega stuff, but because I am still locating some of my collection so that I can make some nice thematic entries on here for both Sega and the Pixar Cars line that I will cover in the future, I have no end of Lego Playsets and items at hand, that are currently ready and waiting for review. So we'll start off with a fun little set, the "Lego Marvel - Iron Man 3 Extremis Sea Port Battle" (Set 76006).

I'll start off by saying that Lego has really done a great job with the Marvel license, but to be honest, very little of what Lego ever creates is bad. That's not a fan boy kind of observation either. Sure, they've had odd fumbles (in some people's opinions, like Fabuland), but I am speaking to the aspects of the amount of care and detail that Lego will put forth to not only capture the essence of the intellectual properties they reinterpret, but how flawlessly each piece will work across the spectrum in all playsets they put out. FEW companies can boast a toyline that will go across generations and work as well together no matter if the set was from 1980 to this one based on Iron Man 3.

(upper left) The helmets were polybagged separately, and are so freaking cool. (upper right) Some of the more unique parts, in this case the transparent ends used for the missiles on the Mandarin's boat. (larger lower image and smaller corner image) Stickers seem to be the norm on limited and/or licensed sets. Probably more of a factor that it saves on cost to produce a sticker sheet and have the model builder adhere them, than have custom tampo details pre done on the parts.

The best part of course with so many of the new licenses that Lego acquires, is that often new and unique pieces or colors (like "Medium Lilac" which is a brick color that is used primarily in sets featuring the DC Comics character, the Joker, as well as the Knight Bus vehicle set from Harry Potter [sets 4755 and 4866]). Right off the bat though to have Iron Man and War Machine minifigs were already getting me all geeky happy!

(top left) Playset element of a sea bouy that has an "exploding" function. (top right, middle right, larger lower image) When you first start putting the Mandarin's speedboat together, it looks a little garish in color choices of bricks... but looks pretty darn slick once you finish it up. (inset left inside) Not a lot of extra parts after everything is assembled in this set, but some rather helpful ones that can round out the details to add to your custom builds or add more flair to maybe this set. I should bedazzle the boat...
The two playset elements above are nice, well constructed and engineered. No complaints on my part for assembly, but I did find the boat at first to be a little cumbersome in one step to finish assembling the bottom aspect, but that could easily have been me overlooking a step in the instructions.

(top image) Iron Man, Mandarin, and War Machine from the Lego Marvel - Iron Man 3 Extremis Sea Port Battle set. (bottom image) shown with more dramatic lighting, minus transparent feet and hand bricks, and open face plates.
The minifigs in this set did not disappoint. The details that Lego threw into them are really spot on. Great streamlined takes on the armors from the movie, and some crazy cool detail to the Mandarins face... but wait, there's more...

All of the heads have dual expressions, as per most of the licensed sets recently, and the expressions, especially Tony Stark's are pretty funny. But, the Mandarin takes this one on the basis that his head glows!
So, there's my review on the Lego Marvel - Iron Man 3 Extremis Sea Port Battle set. Not a bad buy if you can find it, and it usually retails for around $17 to $29 depending on the retail store.

Until next time!

Kickstarter - Kaiju USB: GODAI Guardians

by
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/usbmemorydirect/kaiju-usb-godai-guardians?ref=live
Character based and custom shaped USB drives have been around for some time, allowing people to carry a fun little character on a keyring, rather than the typical boring USB drive. USB Memory Direct agrees with this notion and has launched a Kickstarter to help fund the creation of Kaiju USB: GODAI Guardians. USB Memory Direct specializes in USB drives as promotional tools for companies, but also like to explore other creative ideas. Failing to receive funding for Kaiju USB through traditional funding methods, the Creative Director at USB Memory Direct Hector Franco, decided to take the idea to Kickstarter.
“I decided to go on Kickstarter because this is really a community product. I love these toys, the story, and the rich past they represent. But it means nothing if I can’t share it with a strong community of followers and supporters,” – Hector, Creative Director.

Not only is Hector trying to develop a cool collectible USB drive, Hector and his team are creating a complete storyline. Each of the Kaiju characters have a story and a purpose. A brief from the Kickstarter Page:
Welcome to the world of GODAI.
This galaxy is inhabited by creatures called Kaiju!
Planet Earth was formed from the GODAI– The 5 natural elements of the universe:
Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, and Void
These 5 elements created the world and then took the form of 4 Guardians (earth, water, fire, wind) and the Overseer (void).
Concept Drawings for GODAI Guardians - USB Memory Direct
Having already developed a working prototype for one of the characters, GODAI Chi, a fully funded Kickstarter will provide the means for the creation of prototypes and full production for all of the GODAI characters. The total funding goal is set to $25,000, hoping to be funded within a 30 day timeline.
Prototype of GODAI Chi - USB Memory Direct
With many different Reward levels available, from a $2 pledge for a Desktop Wallpaper, to a $240 Collect Them all Inferno Package, there is a reward level available for everyone. Early Backers can save some money by snagging one of the limited cheaper Reward Tiers, $20 for an 8GB Kaiju USB or $35 for a 16GB Kaiju USB. The Price for everyone after the Early Bird Tiers fill up are $25 and $40 respectively. This pricing is inline with many of the current character based USB Drives, however, if all goes well with this project, these Kaiju USB are going to have 3D features, as opposed to just paint.

As with all Kickstarters, money will not get transferred to USB Memory Direct until the end of the Kickstarter project and ONLY if the Kickstarter gets fully funded. For Kaiju USB, this means reaching the total amount of $25000. So check out the Kickstarter Video and head on over to the Kaiju USB: GODAI Guardians Kickstarter page to learn more about the project. Stay tuned for more info!
