Flawtoys War Customs Series Drops Today

by

Dutch artist and Flawtoys proprietor, Sander Dinkgreve, is dropping his War Custom series over at Flawtoys eStore.
This custom series is composed of 6 different customs across varying platforms; 7" Munny, 4" Munny, 4" Zukie, 4" Teddy Troop, 3" Dunny and 2.5" Labbit joined by 2 accompanying paintings on canvas.

"The War customs are creatures born into a hostile environment. The creatures all teamed up to form a respective clan. They have wooden mask and patches to prevent themselves from getting killed or hurt." - Sander D.

Each custom is hand sculpted and painted. Each piece features a unique combination of roughly textured, weathered, organic-looking masks and sharp, clean, seamless paint application.

Cleopatra Mist Bot, Circa 1886 by DeeTen

by
Another awesome steampunk piece (Ghost Girl) from DeeTen, in his typically style. Really dig the mask and of course the tubing!

Background:
The expedition of 1886 into the parallel reality recorded their encounters with these mist bots. While our expedition was touring the 13 great cities of the other realm, they came across the city of Cleopatra. The city seemed to appear out of the mist of the mountains that surrounded its valley location. When one arrives at Cleopatra they are given special vision devices that allow its user to see through the thick fog as if it were not present at all. Our travelers marveled at the thought of a city constantly shrouded in mist so thick the actually boundaries of the city are those of the fog that engulfs it. A poor man of ours actually found himself incarcerated for bottling up some mist as a keepsake. While touring the magnificent gold spires and towers our explorers came across these mist emitters. They were seen floating about through the streets and gathering around buildings releasing mist at a constant slow flow rate. When asked about what purpose they filled, the people of Cleopatra shrugged, rather comically in fact. Old folklore of the city tells that they were present when the city was constructed. In fact, they are the machines that provided the thick mist that blankets the city in moisture. The mist also protects the city from the unusually high concentration of solar rays that bombard the area. The citizens of the city gave the machines no attention, which we presumed normal for their society. However, our expedition was teaming with ideas about what a machine such as this could promise. Several of these bots were given to our expedition as gifts for the betterment of our world. This particular bot returned with us to our reality, fully functional, until the portal between the worlds closed. At that moment the bot fractured and crashed to the ground, as well as all of the other technology brought over. All attempts to reanimate the bot have failed.

Green Panda Gazer Bust by Angry Woebots x Lightsleepers

by
Aaron "Angry Woebots" Martin and Lightsleepers are releasing a "Green Hawaiian" colorway of the Panda Gazer Bust, through Silent Stage Gallery. This latest release is different from the rest, in that it's not limited by quantity, but it is only going to be available for a limited time. This means that everyone will have a chance to snag one, as long as you make your purchase during the timed release.

Available for $150 plus shipping, now through Thursday, January 18, 2013. This latest Green clear resin colorway is looking like the last colorway of the Gazer Bust.  So, make sure to pick one up or be sad when this panda bust goes extinct, just like the Panda King.

Me Man by Tim "timselF" Munz

by
A new week means the next reveal for Red Mutuca's Superish Dunny Series. This week's custom design is by Tim "timselF" Munz, called "Me Man", a narcissistic pretty boy who flies around with a mirror.

From Red Mutuca:
Aside from Todd McFarlane's Spawn, super-heroes tend to be rather pretty boy types. In fact, if you told me that as Superman flew by some highly reflective skyscraper windows that he felt the need to stop and check out his baby blues & pearly whites then I'd totally believe you. And, trust me, this has everything to do with Tim "timselF" Munz's "Me-Man." And, let's face it, if we were as stunningly perfectly painted as Me-Man is, we'd be checking ourselves out in our tiny wee hand-made mirror accessories too! Sporting a real cloth cape, there's something about this figure's brilliantly made nose that I just can't stop staring at. If you're hoping to pull one of these narcissistic beauties for yourself, then good luck…  there will only be 3 of them in the series.
I'm really digging the concept and design of Tim's Dunnys. It's too bad that there are only 3. The limited number should make this design highly sought after. The Superish series by Red Mutuca has a small batch of blind boxes that will go on sale once all the Dunnys are complete and ready to ship. Hopefully that will be in the next month or so. All the artists involved are creating some great pieces.

Carving The Comics - The Wonderful Wooden Toy Art of Charles Ponstingl

by

I'm going to take a slight detour from current designer toy coverage and bring you all something a little deeper. I don't know what else to say about this amazing and unique art, so I'll just provide some pictures and a link to the website by Mel Birkrant (another story in himself) to showcase the masterpieces he's collected by his friend and fellow pop-culture fanatic, Charles Ponstingl.

Do yourself a huge favor and follow this link. There is just way too much to show here, perhaps too much to take in all at once.

Flight 3" Dunny by Kano

by
Kidrobot and Kano, of Kanokid Studios, release the first Dunny of 2013, a 3" Dunny titled "Flight". The Dunny features a uniquely shaped head and a color scheme reminiscent of the old Transformers cartoon and toys. This Dunny design is limited to 3000 pieces and what looks to be 3 different colorways, however, there is no word on color ratios. The red, white and blue version is the main colorway, with the picture being on the Dunny box. Also, a purple and black colorway was leaked on Trampt. Nothing yet on the third colorway, but I'm hoping that the color is going to have more blues. If the color schemes look or sound familiar to anyone, just think Thundercracker or Thrust, Starscream, and Skywarp. Of course this is a reach, since there is no official word of what the influence behind Kano's design, but there seems to be more than meets the eye.

Flight Dunny Product Preview
The Flight Dunny will be hitting stores on January 17th and will retail for $14.95 US, £12 UK, and €13.90 EU, depending on your location.

Kumiho Custom Fonzo by Artmymind

by
Kumiho is a wonderful custom Fonzo creation for the "Fonzo Love NY" show at My Plastic Heart by the duo at Artmymind, Guillaume & Julia Lachambre. With the Artmymind duo recently having to move studios, while also enjoying the holidays, I am amazed with this latest creation. Artmymind did a great job with the Fonzo by making it stand 8" tall and even giving it a tail. The metal looking arm reminds me a bit of the recent film, "The Man with the Iron Fist". The colors and other sculpted features stand out in pictures, which leads me to believe that this piece is going to look even better in person. Made from epoxy clay, sculpey, acrylics, wood and other materials, Kumiho is just another representation of how good Artmymind is at creating great pieces of art. Whoever ends up this great piece is one lucky person.

The Fonzo Love NY show at MyPlasticHeart is going to be one great show. The show opens today, January 11, 2013. With the opening reception from 6pm-9pm with many of the artists making an appearance at the reception.

Killdroid 5000 2.0 custom by Josh Mayhem

by
The Killdroid 5000 Ver. 2.0 was inspired by the original Killdroid 5000 Josh created for the custom "Dunny Show" at Plastic Chapel in Denver CO. This collector wanted something similar to the original so Josh kept the aged metal look while implementing the look and style of a Gunny. The wings and head articulate with this piece as well.

Josh Mayhem is still accepting commissions for Gunnys in specific color variations and Gundam characters.

Deathscythe Gunny by Josh Mayhem

by
With the Deathscythe Gunny the collector wanted a Gunny with the features of the Deathcythe Gundam figure. The wings close around this custom as is does the original Gundam toy, and the head articulates as well.
