Killer Bootlegs Artist Series: "Blackbook" Edition Art-Too figures drop on Black Friday

by
Last month, Peter Wheatstraw Goral of Killer Bootlegs started recruiting a motley crew of artists. Graffiti writers, stencil/street artists, tattoo artists, and screen printers were called upon for an "Artist Series" for a carded version of the "Vintage Art-Too" bootleg action figure.

The figure, which initially was a collaboration between Killer Bootlegs and U.K. based graffiti writer Hoakser, is a cast of an r2d2 from the vintage line of Star Wars action figures. The little droid, which was redesigned to resemble a vintage Krylon can, has since become one of KB's most popular releases to date.

Blank cardbacks screenprinted by Pirate Ninja Print Shop were shipped all over the country to Peter's friends and colleagues. The artists were given the themes of Star Wars, hip hop, and graffiti. The artists involved are as follows:

Cash Cannon, Corey Hagburg, Dan Moorman, Eddie Fajardo, Emmanuel L White Eagle, James Ford, Jarrod Hennis, John Santagada, Joseph Goral, Laurence Barr, Manny Tang, Michael Lara, Ryan Lape, and Nasty Neil of Wasted Talent.

Also, Hoakser did 2 different cardback designs, but due to international shipping issues his card will be available at a later date.

The Killer Bootlegs Artist Series: "Blackbook" Edition Art-Too is scheduled for Black Friday release at Tenacious Toys on the Killer Bootlegs page. Each one of a kind Art-Too will be sold for $75 a piece, plus shipping and handling.

MAD Toy Design's "Modern Hero" Resin - Limited Black Friday Drop

by

There's a lot of great deals and incredible items to be had on this Blackest of week days, but MAD Toy Design's new chunk of solid resin may just be the one to beat them all. Literally.

Standing an impressive 7" tall, the highly-polished Modern Hero is limited to a tiny handmade run of 13 pieces (only 10 for sale) and each one will be packaged in a numbered, laser-etched wooden box.

The $300 price tag might scare the unworthy, but it's well worth it for a considerable piece of art such as this. I don't know the precise drop time, but it's probably about midnight. Keep your eyes on the MAD Toy Store for the drop!

Chebaka Toys

by

About three months ago, I wrote about the pre-order for these new vinyl toys from Creo Design Shop that come in a variety of colors. A couple of weeks ago I received these in the mail for review. Out of the box these look great, the packaging is done well and the toys them selves look good out of the box. My first thought was that these would be great for customizing. Out of the five the only quality control issues were some bubbling of the paint on the green one. This is not uncommon as even big companies have a toy or two that make it through with some QC issues.

Well it had been a while since I had written about the pre-order so I hopped over to Creo Design Shops store. I found out that in addition to the five color ways there was also now a blank DIY toy. This brings me to my only problem with these toys. Like I said before, these look great for DIY aspects, they are simple with only a base color and no real detail to them. Now I see they are offering a DIY version for $15. The various color ways go for $20, or $85 for the set of 5. I could see spending $10 a piece for these across the board, but with such simple base colors, I cannot see these being put into a collection straight out of the box. The options for designers at this price level are numerous, kidrobot alone has all their 4" DIY's for $10, the 7" ones are the same price as the Chebaka color ways.

These are nice forms, but I think the price needs to be cut in half for these to be of interest to the general toy community. Now I just have to figure out what I am going to do to customize my set.
