Pepe Hiller x Lunabee Woodbees

by
Pepe Hiller announces his collab with UK artist Lunabee:
These hand carved wooden bees, aptly names WOODBEES, were created by Pepe in Switzerland out of maple & walnut wood and then shipped over to Lunabee to paint up. There are 10 bees in total - 9 smaller worker bees (approx 2.5 inches in length) and one large Queen bee (approx 3.5"). The worker bees will be up for $99 each and the Queen for $149.

These are the only bees that are being made - there will be no future series, it's a one off collaboration and so this is the only chance to grab one of these wooden delights.

The release is being split into two with 5 worker bees being released tomorrow Thursday the 10th May at 7pm London time on Lunabees store (http://lunabee.co.uk) and the remaining 4 worker bees and the Queen being released on Thursday the 17th May at the same time and in the same place.

Real Steel AMBUSH articulated robot figure by 3A

by
Worth noting as 3A makes inroads into manufacturing toys as collabs on other companies' licenses: Ambush, a 42cm (16.5 inch) tall highly articulated robot figure from the Real Steel movie. The detail and weathering is very impressive... this figure was available for preorder from the 3A web shop in mid-April. If you want to follow along with 3A's info and releases in the future, here are their links:

Note for confused newbies: there is nothing currently for sale in the 3A web shop. This is not a mistake. Literally everything 3A makes sells out right away. We recommend signing up for their VOX newsletter to stay informed.

Jon Malmstedt visits Gotto-san's studio in Japan

by
Our ex-pat buddy Jon Malmstedt (Rampage Toys) now lives in Tokyo. A while back he was fortunate to be able to visit Japanese paint master Gotto-san, and he made this blog post and this video about his visit. Really, super cool to be able to see "behind the scenes" in the production of sofubi.

Something blue and evil this way comes... from Dave Webb

by
Dave Webb (aka Davemarkart) created this sweet little blue evil thing... whether he knew it or not, he was creating his version of our little blue pitbull logo (below). He wanted to make us a present for helping him out, so he asked us what we wanted. We told him to make us something blue and wicked... and this perfect little monster is what he came up with! A damn fine addition to the official Tenacious Toys collection. Great work Dave! A thousand thank-yous!!!

Stormies Kickstarter by Jon Walsh with resin by Matt A

by
Now THIS is a Kickstarter I can definitely get behind (in fact, I pledged before I started writing this blog post!)

We've posted a few teasers this week, but here's what Jon Walsh has to say about the project:

Starting today, May the 4th, I am launching a Kickstarter project to help raise funding to have my Stormie figure resin cast by the uber amazing Matt*A (http://www.facebook.com/Matt.Acustoms). A Stormie is a 2.5" mashup/original sculpt of everyone's favorite ever-present imperial character, the Stormtrooper. As part of the project a large range of rewards are available to supports, ranging from $1 to $150. These include exclusive Kickstarter pieces and colorways, prints and even some custom one-offs by some of your favorite artists such as NikeJerk, Fuller, Ian Ziobrowski, UNCLE, JFury, Halfbad, Shez, Trust Pigs, 2bitHACK, F1shcustoms myself.

I'm super stoked for this. The project is already overfunded but there are still rewards left so click through and pledge to get yourself a Stormie! I'm down with any project that supports my artist friends and associates.

To pledge, go to http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1600197459/stormies-episode-1 and check out the project to see what is going on in a galaxy not too far, far away.

WIP: Beautifully Ugly Ghost Girl custom by Cyberphunkk

by
beautifully ugly, originally uploaded by cyberphunkk.

Emmanuel White Eagle shares with us a new custom called "Beautifully Ugly" on a Ghost Girl platform. He writes that he has been planning to do it for a few months, and he finally had time to work on it. Above is the illustration that the figure is based on. This character will also be a series of paintings, illustrations, and customs, and maybe an original if he can get funds yet for producing it.

Below is a WIP photo of the custom. The back end of the Ghost Girl will be brought out from the sketch into 3D so it will be a 360-degree all around sculpted custom.

Cash Cannon Sal Munny and FunkoPOP Tinkerbell customs

Cash Cannon shares with us two more customs: a 4-inch Mini Munny (above) and a FunkoPOP Tinkerbell custom he made as a commission piece (below). For the 4 inch Munny, which he named "Sal", Cash used sculpey and painted it with a variety of spray paints as well as brushable paint. It's coated in 2 different clearcoats. The Tinkerbell FunkoPOP figure below features a purse made of sculpey and a real ribbon in her hair.
